Watches as an investment - Topic of the day 4/6/25
Every man knows that a watch will elevate his style. Classic timepieces such as Rolexes are not only a class signifyer but a an investment for your grandchildren. How else are you supposed to show that you are stealthily wealthily if you do not have an automatic diver watch you will treat properly and never expose to harsh conditions like seawater?

My watches are some of my most precious family heirlooms even if they're not big brand names. Priceless.
my parents gave me a casio diver watch when i graduated high school, with the assumption of having an heirloom to pass down; i lost it a few months later lol
they then gave me a timex weekender because i wanted a basic watch, and it's been a daily rider for years now. were i more knowledgeable i would've pushed for cash or an IRA in my name instead of a watch in high school but hindsight is 20/20
I like time
description reminds me of all the family that wants me to sell all my hobbies and stop having hobbies lmfao
Terrorist watch >
I also have seiko sarb that I never use
I got a 30€ Casio as a (bday?) gift something like 12 years ago and have been wearing it ever since
Indestructible
Precious to me :))
If the only way to justify dropping $15k on a luxury good is to tell yourself it’s an investment then maybe you shouldn’t spend $15k on a luxury good
Who the fuck submitted this
they’re a pretty poor vehicle for investment aside for sentimentality
I'm shorting the watch market as we speak so don't buy any
The watches that go up in value are the outlier more than the norm, if you want to invest in something play the actual market. Watches are a shit investment overall
lego is a surprisingly good investment
Stop
sealed lego sets increase wildly in value (allegedly)
this is not financial advice
Lego is expensive enough as is don't bring more scalpers into it
i honestly miss having enough money for it
but yeah, buying watches as a serious form of investment is a bad plan all in all
My used modular buildings are worth 2-3 times what I bought them at new like 5 years ago😭 Lego hobby is wild
(Thankfully?) current sets won’t see such price spikes so fast, they’re producing insane amounts of everything
Lego resellers with a filled basement are stuck with a bunch of hard to ship stuff that’s still going for around retail 3+ years later, it’s quite entertaining
Remember beanie babies were a whole ass market in and of itself and then it crashed
much like the stock market currently 👀
I can’t get into watches because my brother and dad already collect them and I’m tired of hearing about them.
If you’re buying watches to speculate, I hate you
"every man"?
retweet to infinity
absolute bait fr

It’s okay to buy something - even something expensive - singularly for the reason that you like it. There’s no need to pretend “it’s an investment”, because it really isn’t in reality.
People like to make up rational reasons for spending big money when they really don’t have to and it’s okay either way.
Love watches but never got the "investment" side of it :mryuk:
Flexing my daily driver

Looking at the current stock market watches might soon depreciate less fast than actual stocks lol
You should sell all your stocks and buy watches
trust me, i have an economist as my pfp, i must know what im saying.
Giving this topic a fair shake. As someone who used to resell quite a bit of streetwear back in my uni days I’ve got a bit of insight.
People really heavily discount the amount of time you spend just learning the market on these things and deal with the selling of products. People love to say well stocks are going down but my watch is still worth x but never accounted for all the time they will spend selecting/acquiring/selling it. Sure if it’s your interest you can value that time differently. Often though your watch which is worth x typically won’t sell for that as most informed buyers know the loose margin scalpers are working on. Unless you have a great relationship with a dealer who doesn’t care you a reselling (unlikely) you are probably not turning that much of a profit after time spent.
This isn’t even accounting for items that don’t sell as well as you thought or having to hold onto items for a long time locking in your liquidity. Same as a lot of things the top 1% of people buying and selling are making a killing but they probably have spent years building a network to get to that and people buying the first Rolex they can find and trying to sell will be disappointed for the most part.
