Distant Horizons making my CPU (i7 14700k) go to 100% and then crashes in less than a minute
I just got it to load at all with the attached mod list (just Simply Opt and voice chat) but now it makes my CPU go to 100% when I load in a world and then crashes after about 30 seconds. It doesn't lag much in that time, I still get 100-120 fps. My CPU Load is on Balanced and even setting it to Low Impact it still uses 75% and stutters quite a bit. Is an i7 14700 meant to be struggling this hard with it?

You should send your
latest.log
file to provide additional useful information.
Logs are usually located in the .minecraft/logs
directory.
On Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\logs
On Linux: ~/.minecraft/logs
On Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/logs
Please upload the file to mclo.gs instead of sending the raw file. This makes reading the contents of the file a lot easier and improves the chances of you getting the help needed.
After uploading the file, click on Save
and send the link.Is the PC crashing or just MC?
How much RAM did you allocate to MC?
Do you have any custom GC/JVM tuning flags?
just mc
12/32 gb
Nope
I went and played on some servers and it was working fine. So it's just worldgen that's making it tweak out
Even on <12 render
Does this happen with DH as the only mod?
Or with a simple set of Sodium, Lithium, Iris, DH?
Yes
with DH only
when loading the world it is normal for it to be at 100% for a moment until it loads stuff
the cpu load settings are also relative so they'd exert the same usage on like, a 16 core cpu as it would on a 4 core cpu
no
and it def doesnt crash even on 12 render
with DH
and it's definitely not crashing because it has a lot to load, it's crashing because of something else
yea with DH but I have it on balanced cpu usage... that shouldnt be 100%
at least for a second or so it is expected to spike to a very high usage, it's not just DH that is gonna be loading its things the game will load standard terrain too, and the game will want to do that as fast as possible, won't it?
anyways, if you get the logs people can try to figure out why it's crashing
yea but it doesnt just spike it stays high until it crashes
i gtg to work but Ill do it again and send logs later
alright
There are other thing that use the CPU too
DH controles only it's own load
I don’t think mrpack files are meant to be in the mods folder that looks very wrong
yeah but it's not gonna be interefering with anything
Truee
it said smthn ab my shaders, so I disabled them and did it again, made no difference
here's one where I removed all mods except DH and fabric api:
still crashed after ab 30 seconds
and only happens in single player
Crashed without anything in the logs.
Is there a crash report?
yea
Here's what the launcher always says

and here's that crash log
and obv my graphics drivers are up to date and I have no screen recording software
Do you have an NVIDIA GPU? Which series?
probably a pretty recent one considering they have a last gen cpu
Maybe this is the NVIDIA driver instability?
How many monitors do you have?
3080
and 1 monitor at 1440 120Hz
i heard ab the graphics driver instabilities but i thought it was only for the 40s and 50s. Also this has been happening since before any of that anyways
anyone have any more ideas cuz I rly like this mod and want it to work 🥲
does the simply optimized modpack contain nvidium? Last time I tried using that mod the latest version of sodium didn't work with nvidium
nvm
