Garbage collection
i dont think my servers garbage collection is working, any ideas why?
my ram usage keeps going up and up before the server crashes
it crashes every 30 minutes or so

Please post more information such as spark reports, I don't know the exact commands for GC focus but maybe someone else will.
It is almost impossible that the GC is does not work at all. There may be a memory leak in a plugin somewhere or you set some weird java flags
Actually I think someone told me I needed more ram
I upgraded 5gb to 8 and itโs working fine so far

spark profiler start --allocare you using a host?
alot server hosts use pterodactyl now, which if you allocated all your ram to your minecraft server in its startup flags can cause out of memory errors. which can be fixed by simply changing your server flags to use 0.5-1gb less then you have access to
