CPU temps 85-90+ when using dh
Can someone help me? Everytime I install and use dh my cpu temps shoot up to 90 plus, no matter the settings I change. After removing dh and just using shaders my temps go back to normal
Edit: my cpu is a ryzen 7 7700x

DH uses the CPU to generate and process LODs. If you want to lower the CPU usage; change your CPU preset in the DH settings. It right next to the quality setting :)
You may need to wait a bit after changing the setting so that all the task started with the previous setting finish to see the decreased CPU usage
You can also disable distant generation
Also I don’t see any problem here
CPUs can run at constant 100 C
It is quite normal to see your cpu temps shoot up when there is a sudden load, even if you are using a low DH preset
They probably could, but on a laptop (i guess it’s a laptop. A low power desktop cpu wouldn’t heat up that much, and there is low chance a high cpu user would have to ask this here to understand what’s happening), running your cpu at 100° (it should throttle before that anyway, 89° being the common limit) implies to make your laptop into a fireball (including components).
Also efficiency decreases with heat, so it’s a vicious cycle.
Better underclocking or undervolting that cpu asap
Ok, am i supposed to wait for everything to generate and do its thing before the cpu can go back to normal?
Okay I’ll try to wait a little bit then and see if temps improve
The thing is I would try lowering the usage and it still ran really hot, am I supposed to wait for everything to generate before I can expect temps to go back to normal?
I’m on a pc my cpu is a ryzen 7 7700x
Then you have a cooling or/and voltage problem. Do you have any monitoring software ? How many watts do your cpu consume when at full load ? Lot of motherboard tends to have ridiculous voltage curves by default, putting out 150w on a 100w tdp cpu (i am exaggerating but you got it) for no reason
ill have to look, but im not sure if it could be a cooling problem or not cs when i run anything else temps are at normal high 70s to low 80s. It's literally only when I have dh installed
idk if this is what you mean or not but this is what the voltage looks like when stress testing under a full load

i even tried undervolting the cpu curve by negative 10 but it didnt seem to affect dh
the temperature jumping up on a ryzen cpu is a totally normal thing
The same happened on my 7800x3d, jumped up, but under continous load would stay the same
@SPL4SH What kind of cooler do you have installed
peerless assasin 120 SE
then you are fine
nothing to worry about
Idk your cpu so I couldn’t tell you, voltage are very cpu model specific so they would vary on every cpu.
What temps do you get when running the aida stress test ?
these ryzen cpus are designed to run hot lol
the temps are well over 90 degrees when stressing it, upwards of 100
how long ago did you install the cooler?
It just gets me paranoid, I just built this pc so im scared im causing damage or something lol
or did it come pre-installed
like literally two days ago
maybe three
the pc is brand new
maybe the paste isn't applied properly
Well that’s high but, the reason I asked for your power consumption is because these ryzen tends to boost super high until reaching power limit, if it draw like only 100w for 95°, then your cooler is weak
because 100 is high for a continous load
a peerless assasin 120 se should easily handle a 7700x
Not power limit but thermal throttle*
i mean could it just be that dh is too much? Do i need to wait for everything to generate before i can expect to see normal temps? cs like i said running anything else temps are normal high 70s to low 80s
even running shaders I get pretty normal temps but the second dh comes in it shoots up
Imo even 70 to low 80 is pretty high for low load
Well i mean thats what it is when running intensive games
Wdym by intensive games, what games ?
like marvel rivals, mc with shaders, cod
Run
Prime95
on Small FFTs
preset with all cores and hyper threading enabled
And you will see temps even higher then with DH
That is just using 100% of your CPU, DH is very efficient when it comes to the CPU operation type for some reason, that makes it run hotter then the average scenario, that being said it is still the OS, BIOS and the CPU itself that decides if it runs too hot, and if you don't like its decision. You have to apply other manual limit on top of that or under volt the CPU (undervolting can decrease stability, but will reduce the temp, power usage, and can increase performance if the CPU is thermal throttling)
The power (W) limit can be set via XTU in Windows (you have to enable it every time you restart your PC) or you can enable it in BIOS
DH can't and wont do that for youHe could try to disable the ryzen precision boost also, these auto overclock function are imo, totally worthless
