Details - Topic of the day 3/20/25
There are so many pieces that look so regular from far away but are unique in their details. What are your favorite details? Do you believe in items with interesting details or do you prefer your clothing to be interesting in macro?

this totd assumes i take good enough photos good enough to make out details
For me, I feel like you can kind of separate this conversation into two types of details: ones that people in general won’t notice unless they’re looking (relatively) closely and ones that only clothing nerds will notice.
Polo pony, Burberry check
I feel like those details add some interesting personality into the outfits that I include them in
Also ones mostly just for the wearer that you have to go out of your way to show lol. Like this pattern under my collar which is my favorite detail and will likely never see the light of day again:

Details are purely for me to enjoy and anyone caught enjoying my details without express written permission will be punished
I love details but I also love black clothes so they're hard to discern - product photo vs phone pic

I have this top that has an origami boat embellishment that I didn't see when I bought it on trr lol

both of my pairs of nozomi ishiguro denim have a lott of details that are what really sold me on them
some of them are personal or subtle, like the pearl sewn on the tag, or the really light colors on one leg (that look like marker scribbles or something?)

multicolored thread to sew the fur patch, very subtle hand reworking of distressed bits, hand sewn patch with pretty thread, silver stain on tag

im also really really fond of the details on this pair of nozomi jeans, neither photograph super super well in fitpics

I love small shiny metal anything,
mother of pearl or glass too for buttons and such
I'm a magpie pretty much 😂
Other than that, interesting weave patterns are really fun
and then just unique material choices (or rather, materials you wouldnt associate with the type of garment it's on)
oh and good zippers
some cool ones on stuff i have(pics are not mine)
L.E.J mother of pearl buttons
Kapital century denim fades

i love mother of pearl anything :blushcatto:
I absolutely love the wacky ben davis pockets. They’re comfy

maybe not that unique but I love how clean the stitching are on these jeans. Also that triple bar tack crotch reinforcement.

Im kind of obsessive over getting shirts with the right collar shape. Most makers just don't get it right
I have a Dickies Eisenhower jacket with a floral jacquard pattern that's basically invisible. But I know that it's there and I like it.
I also love corduroy as a detail. Pocket lining, cuff lining, collar, etc.
I'm a huge fan of the shirt sleeve! Especially when wearing something sartorial, you have multiple layers peeking through. It's great when nice fabrics line up perfectly there, and because it's right in front of your eyes, you'll see it throughout the day and get a little dopamine rush!

I’m all about handsewn buttonholes

This is so simple and true. When you get just the right amount of shirt cuff showing, and the contrast in color and texture is on point....sooooo good.
Stop these are so chic
I’m so excited to get them back from the tailor so I can finally wear them :blushcatto:
I love a perfectly pressed pleat (thanks Catholic school). I see a knife-sharp pleat and my brain tingles. I also love gold, especially stacked and/or statement pieces, the more yellow the better. I love layering, and contrasting materials (a gold chain against fabric, a knit under denim, a silky shirt under a flannel shacket). Also, silk and silky fabrics. Especially worn on the head/over the hair.
Also, cool buttons (mother of pearl, or very intricate), and little embroidery. I need to learn to embroider so I can make flowers out of any holes in my sweaters :’)
(I wonder whether that’s a service someone provides)
probably at least one in your area! last night i found a few visible and invisible mending shops in mine
some of them are willing to work with you if you aren't in their area as well
Yay!! I’ll have a look
