Micro HDMI cable that fits in the Sony a5100
I am currently having the BIGGEST issue with my a5100 where mid stream the camera will just freeze.
What I end up having to do is power cycling the camera, removing the dummy battery, and replugging in the elgato cam link.
My feeling is more and more something like none of the cables that I have will actually go all the way into the micro HDMI port AT ALL. There is always some extra room that's there that will hang out.
- I have tried to push it in with force and that REALLY worried me so I didn't want to do it a lot.
- I have tried 4 different cables and only 1 of them has a shorter micro male HDMI end, but there was still some hanging out.
- I tried 4k and 8k cables and I have had the same issue
- I thought something was stuck in there so I blew it out with some air, that didn't resolve it either
- I measured the hole with a little stub of paper, stuck it in the plug, closed the latch, then marked the fold. I was then able to measure it against the cables that I had and I was able to confirm that the hole is literally just shorter than plug.
- I saw a guide online where they had a cable plugged in and it was flush but I can't make out the brand name. I THINK the last 2 letters are
AMA
but I am not 100% sure. They don't reference what the cable is and it's a website with no real way to contact them to ask the question either which sucks.
I attached a picture of the cable being flush, does anyone know what brand that is?
Does anyone know a way to get around this?
Does anyone know if I can use the port on the top for something that would allow me to use my a5100 as a webcam still?
Unfortunately with a camera keep freezing every 1-2 hours mid stream is just unacceptable so if anyone can help me I would REALLY appreciate it and love you FOREVER in the most parasocial way possible! I really don't want to have to get a new camera.

do you have another camera to test?
and since the little hdmi port is not good - ensure that the cable does not drag
I've never had trouble with Cable Matters micro HDMI. Does sound like you might have an issue with the port though. Micro HDMI is a pretty frustrating standard.
I don't have any other cameras or ports to test my cables with.
The only thing I know is that the metal is too long to fit in the hole in the camera when I measured it by almost 50%
I am not exactly sure what you mean by "doesn't drag" does that mean "hang down" and just try to make it as straight across as possible? (that's what I am tryin to do now)
I'll check it out, maybe it will fit! Thanks!
just create a loop with a little bit of slack and tie it tape it
the good ole jerry rig, that's basically what I did as a short term fix just in case hahahahaha
exactly - my hdmi cable uses some cable clip giving it a good fit into the port
