local brands and artists - Topic of the day 1/23/25
What are some local brands or artists you know or like? What is a brand that really screams they’re a local to your spot?

i don’t wear a lot of local brands to my specific city because i do not want to associate with this particular city
place is dookie and full of Hate
however… i enjoy a bunch of PNW brands
my city is boring the only local brands do cheap basics that would be more expensive to import from somewhere else
though there are probably designers, I just dont know about them
I’m not aware of any local brands in the cities i live in
There's quite a few brands in my city that cover a pretty wide variety of genres of clothing. I used to wear more local streetwear when I was younger but kinda grew out of it and while there's a lot of nice brands for women for men its mostly streetwear
Montirex are local and huge here, same with Castore. Both completely uninspiring sportswear brands to me, but very much represent how a lot of folks dress.
Hard to really consider Carhartt a DETROIT brand anymore, but yes I like carhartt. Shinola is fine but I’d never pay for it
Obviously most NYC brands don't necessarily fit "local" definitions, but i love a good local coffee shop hat/tee and local band merch
Because Liverpool is so football mad, my favourite little cofee shop even has a football kit as merch
@allverygoods - pro-Black, politics references, lots of tote bags? A DC brand through and through. Really nice stickers and bandanas too
I hate these guys
Universal Works are local to me but I've still not had a look in despite living in the area for ~15 years
There aren’t really any good local brands. I don’t really care about local much, but I do prefer purchasing from small businesses rather than big corporations. I have been buying from local artists more recently but the local part isn’t really intentional. I kind of despise mass produced art but realize a lot of handmade art is much too expensive for the average person.
lots of really cool indie brands in LA, it's incredible how many exist here. from my own perspective of living here for six years here are some brands/people i know personally who capture LA style

True. When I used to live in New Orleans, there was a lot more affordable artwork there. In addition to the culture and lower cost of living there, the touristy areas make low price high volume viable for artists. There is no where in my current city, you could sell enough volume and make a living selling art at similar prices. More affordable things I have found were mainly from people connected to the same community studio.
