Is a past-due plugin for months from a plugin developer OK?
Hey guys! I am creating a server that requires a huge plugin. This project started back in May, and I hired a developer to create the plugin for the server I was making. He said that original plugin would take about a week to complete, and ended up getting just the basic features done in the plugin 3 months past the due date, which was fine, even though the server was missing a lot of features that would be added overtime. That server ended up running for two weeks before I ran into a lot of issues with how the original plugin worked, so I asked the developer about a possible rework of this plugin that he agreed to in August. He said the much larger version of the plugin would be done September 22nd.
Then the series of delay, after delay, after delay started. I didn't mind them until the point of the plugin getting delayed week after week that he says "it will be done friday" or "it will be done tomorrow". I haven't even got any sort of test build this entire time the plugin has been in development, which mind you has been since August. Server members that I have promised a server release date for are leaving because I have been wrong about the release time after time mostly because the dev can't seem to figure out when this plugin will actually be done.
I don't think I am being scammed as I have yet to pay the full price as I have paid like half of it at the start of the plugin, and there is a github repo with code and very good evidence he is working on something, I just don't know what to do anymore. I can't find another developer since I already paid this one, and he would likely expect the other half based on how close he is to finishing the plugin. He says he will be done this week and told me to outright just announce a release date of this weekend, but it is looking more and more like this plugin just won't be finished.
Any advice? I didn't mind the delays much until members actually started to leave over them.

as soon as he didnt deliver or offer any sort of compensation its a red flag
find a different developer STAT, one that is more trustworthy
if a plugin dev cannot deliver on time then they are not a good dev
Ok update here, I took a glance at his BBB profile where I found him for this project, and he commisoned somebody for a plugin for a server, I'm not sure if he is working on something in the background with this plugin (which is annoying as is), or if he is now hiring somebody else to do the plugin for him? I am very confused at this point. Should I ask him about it or just find a new developer by this point? We are working out a deal for updated source code but I am still super confused as to my knowledge he said he owns no servers at the moment.
buncha red flags there ngl
id say get the source code
and dust him (block/ghost/ explain why you are leaving) etc
and find someone from discord.gg/arcanestudios
personally they have some pretty good god damn devs
but they are a bit money hungry :eyessus:
so uh yeahh
Will do, thanks.
not gonna lie sounds like every general contractor ever
hire someone to remodel your kitchen and you'll experience the same shit
he's likely subcontracting the plugin
because he can't code 💀
