Will post pics soon
The sleeves need to be shortened a lot
Not bad at all
Sleeve shortened for sure
Pants too
Yup
Jacket length? This is a long
So
Lemme see it unbuttoned
Hard to tell
Doesn’t look obviously bad tho
I don’t have unbuttoned but I have another angle
I already put it away
:xd: I’m allergic to whatever the scent is
Alr, well from what I can tell it looks fine lengthwise
that dead guy was tall
Here’s the same jacket different color in an R
Looks the same to me
1 inch longer in the black
Alr well if it matters to you you can have it shortened but it doesn’t look bad at all
If it were me I’d just leave it at the sleeves and pants
Ok I’ll keep lenght
Cost is a matter too
Pant seat is a little loose?
I think that’s jsut the cut tho
How do the pants fit at the waist
Perfect
Aight then I wouldn’t worry about it
They jsut are a bit drapey
Drape is good
Ok cool
So it’s a good fit?
Yup
I’ll get it cleaned and tailored then
:letsfuckinggo:
I can’t get tailoring until this weekend but my dad is going to the cleaners tommorow anyway so I’ll have him drop it off
And then tailor after
It smells so strong of whatever perfume or scent
And there was a crying tissue in the pocket
:nooooo:
I hate that I have to wear black ngl, it is not good looking on me
It’ll be okay
No one’s gonna be looking at you anyway
True
Jsut for family photos
Looks good! With correct lenght pants will fit even better
For the next suit I buy
Would you change anything on the fit
make a new thread the next time you want to buy a suit
read through your threads again too. a lot of people gave very helpful advice on what to look for in a suit that may help you to be self-sufficient
*or more self-sufficient, in any case
Well I’m saying based on this suit
from the pictures you've provided it looks like a good fit once you alter the sleeve and pants lengths
a lot of "how should the suit fit" is based on personal preference (how close to the body do you want it) or the construction of the suit itself (do you want the suit to be more relaxed looking or structured looking, do you want a bigger or smaller lapel, do you want a higher or lower buttoning point, etc.)
for your needs in this moment, the suit you have is fine once the sleeves and pants hems are adjusted to your taste
What about that small divot in the shoulder
Is that normal?
the divot is due to how wide and high the armhole of the sleeve (at the shoulder end) was cut.
Does it look bad? Or not correct?
a minor amount of shoulder denting is common especially on a secondhand suit
it is in my humble opinion fine; keep in mind the divot will also occur whenever you move your arms up and down so it's unavoidable
Does it mean the shoulder is a bit too big?
fixing it is time consuming and costly because a tailor will have to remove the sleeve, cut away some of the excess length of the sleeve cap and yet also add width to the sleeve cap to smooth put the opening at where the sleeve and shoulder seam meet
Oh I’m not looking to fix it., just wondering
For knowledge sake
it is almost certainly the armhole not being cut for your exact body
not correlated to how wide the shoulder (alone) is, unless the entire jacket is too wide for you
I mean does it look too wide?
No
no
Ok
If the entire jacket were too wide there are other indicators of this, such as a gap between your chest and the jacket itself, or a slight peak before the shoulder seam from where your actual shoulder bone is
There’s a hole in the pants
Fuck
And also seems to have some fiberglass or something on it cuz my hands are mega itchy
I think I’m going to return it
What day is the wedding
Get it repaired by the tailor?
Not worth it to repair it
3 weeks
I found another one on eBay I can order maybe
How big is the hole
LMAO
Small but they listed this suit as mint condition
This is not mint
come ONNNNN man
It’s worth repairing
They probably did not see the hole because it’s microscopic
Easy to see for me
Also it’s got itch powder or something in it
Fiberglsss
Probably the perfumed cleaning stuff they used
you might be allergic to it
Idk it doesn’t seem like this is worth it
Come on man how would fiberglass be on a suit
Idk? I felt it in my hands
Little pricks
Pin pricks
not my wedding not my circus
dawg just get it dry cleaned
u were going to have to do it at some point anyways
lint roller on the suit if you're concerned about fiberglass before drycleaning
dawg if i were your sister i'd be sooooooooo something something
I can’t get the smell out of my head
a dry cleaner should be able to fix the hole in addition to the cleaning you would want to do anyway
probably stressed with wedding planning
dry cleaning gets the smell out lmao
just dry clean it dude
And tell them you found some shit in it that you’re allergic to so please get rid of it
Yeah but the hole has to be fixed too
how long before the wedding?
3 weeks
the hole doesnt have to be fixed
damn I think u got my uncles suit he died in the fiberglass factory explosion it was a tragedy
there isnt a hole
There is a hole in the pants man
i have. a bigger hole. in my wiener
bread let me put you on game
take the night
I’m returning it anyway.. I’m not happy spending this much money for something damaged
Very upset about
It
The tailor or dry cleaner can fix the hole for an extra tenner I bet
no ones going to notice a tiny hole and the dry cleaner can patch the hole
okay real talk
how much did you spend on this suit
150
i think this may have all been just a gambit to buy a different suit and that this is anxiety not in good faith
if that is not the case my sincere apologies but otherwise good luck
What do you mean
He’s saying you’re looking for excuses to buy a different suit
Trust me I don’t want to
But if that’s what needs to be done
I don’t have a choice
the timing of it after asking all the questions about suiting is questionable
dont buy secondhand if you're not willing to deal with this stuff
dude you got a suit for 150 how were you possibly expecting perfection
Where on the pants is the hole
you know what here's the deal
150 is nothing for a passable suit
get a loan for 2 grand
Right below the knee
You can’t spend less money on a suit than it costs for a meal at a nice restaurant and then complain it’s not perfect
buy a suit from brooks
got a tailor and tell them "i need this to fit perfect in two werks"
they will know what to do
you will pay this tailor
I jsut went to pack it up for dry cleaner and found the hole
h/t sam
you will get a suit to your liking in two weeks and have enough money for a beer after
Bread you can have a cheap suit or a perfect suit you just cant get both. You have a deadline. Roll with the punches and get your new suit cleaned and tailored.
there is no other choice
Genuinely such an easy fix dawg. You only have three weeks left and you still need alterations done. You shouldnt waste time looking for another suit when this one already fits you great
literally no other choice
Yeah what’s the point in taking more shots on eBay seriously
you're going to pay more for a rush alteration than to repair that tiny hole and get it dry cleaned
How easy is it to fix a hole. Will it look good? Expensive?
for something that is NOT YOUR WEDDING
I guarantee you you could even not fix the hole and no one would notife
It’s a fucking tiny pinhole under the knee man
That small a hole will take any good tailor 5 minutes to patch and incur MAYBE a $10 charge
They’ll throw some thread there so wind doesn’t go down it and make your leg cold and no one will notice
I thought it was a much bigger deal
No dude
It’s so small
you are making it a bigger deal
for whatever reason
like 15 ppl just said a normal tailor or dry cleaner will do it for cheap
hence the "take the night off" remark
it will not add any time and will cost you a tenner
U can literally have them fix it when u drop it for cleaning
$15 if the place is robbing you
this is something that you've spent a good amount of time and stress over
i imagine any sort of possible quirk is magnified tenfold
Bread the suit looks great bud
trust me on this, the suit is fine
Drycleaning will get rid of the smell
Honestly many dry cleaners do fine alterations too, he can probably get the sleeves and pants hemmed there too
And you can absolutely have the hole fixed when they do the alteration
get it dry cleaned, get the dry cleaner to fix the hole, and then get someone to fix the sleeves and pant hems
If you’re worried about the powder then just make sure you tell them about it
Even tho they’ll like
Hit it with a lint roller lmao
But deadass if you start the whole process over again and start looking for another suit you WILL NOT have one that fits in time for the wedding
My dry cleaner uses one of those lil handheld vacuums
Also you will probably get yourself and at least 5 server members banned
Ok
Yeah something like that
lint roller is probably the polite thing to do if he suspects actual fiberglass, that way it won't spread into the dry cleaners equipment
I will keep it
you are not required to do this
But I’m not happy
but just take a breath
Yeah I’d take a pass with a lint roller anyway to see if it fixes it
Sorry I have a lot of anxiety
understandable
I apologize
you are being given tangible things to do, and that's probably the best remedy, at least to me
i apologize for saying you were intentionally overreacting or interested in learning to justify another suit purchase
I was not
I don’t have the money for that
of course
dry cleaning, fixing the hole, and getting the sleeves/pants taken up shouldn't be too expensive
And u sure the smell will be completely gone?
should be smooth sailing
Ok I hope so
in the very unlikely event it isn't, get your money back and go somewhere else.
but you are let's say 99% fine
The cleaner said the smell won’t come out
And the hole can’t be fixed
Try another cleaner
try another cleaner
Maybe I’ll jsut return it
remember this. the suit you have is better than having no suit at all, even at its current state. try a different cleaner.
I’m allergic to the smell tbh
Made me sick
Yeah bread if you’re doing this you’re cooked. So return the suit if you so please but there won’t be any last minute saved by the bell type fixes.
Bread you have a suit in hand that fits you fine
Option 1 is to go get a second opinion from another cleaner. In most US cities this is maybe another 5-10 min drive and 5 mins talking to the owner
Option 2 is restart the process altogether, spend time finding a suit, risking it not fitting right/smelling funny/etc and risking not having a suit for your sister's wedding
The sensible thing is at least getting a second opinion, but do what you feel like
Can’t believe a cleaner would tell you that hole can’t be fixed. I could fix that fucking hole
When you talk to the cleaner, be calm and just ask what they think is possible. If you're making a big deal out of the smell to them they probably won't want to touch the business because they don't think they will be able to make you happy
I've never touched a needle and thread in my life and I could for sure fix that hole
A needle and thread and 5 mins spent watching a YouTube tutorial and you could fix that hole
An exorcism and you could fix that smell
Some folks will turn down a job based on their interaction with the customer rather than whether or not the job is viable
find another cleaner first
and do this https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1326316067949117470/1326648308352946248
i believe in you bread
you've got to believe in the service people in your community
Hang the suit up in your bathroom while you shower and steam it out. It should get most of the smell out.
Ima find a new cleaner
Yeah good idea
It actually smells far less today that’s it’s been out. I think something was in the bag
Cuz there’s also a feel to the fabric
Like some sort of coating
Maybe something was in the bag
The man said the hole could be patched but you would “notice it”
I really didn’t understand much, not English speaking native so I think it was confusing
Steam it out
I’ve aired out the suit for a while and the scent is barely perceivable now
I honestly think they sprayed something in the packaging
But why tf would they do that
I’m still convinced there is
Fiberglass tho
if you have a lint roller, run it all over the suit before taking it to a dry cleaner
I will
I haven’t kept up but if the suit irritates your skin just wear long underwear
Sorry if that’s been said already
I kind of get it because I have to actively remind myself not be overly anxious or obsessive about my clothes. I get tailoring is different than the more rugged stuff I wear day to day in that there’s not really an element of “wabi-sabi” like with rugged wear but idk at this point i would think about it like a $150 gift for your sister rather than a suit for yourself. It is totally passable and it’s worth $150+whatever you spend on a suit in the future to have peace of mind rn.
Not to go on a tangent too much, butI kind of do the same thing when I buy local. It’s often more expensive than coupon hunting or forwarding via from Japan or something, but I personally think it’s sort of worth it to alleviate the anxiety of stuff fitting right, as someone who kind of relates to your experience to some extent.
Tldr this level of anxiety is worth spending $150 on a suit to put to rest, even if it’s something you wear like 3 times ever
it's also maybe not just about the suit but about everything else around it - your sister is getting married, your family is expanding, etc
given the circumstances you are presently in, you're doing all the right things imo - lint roller, dry cleaner, tailor
I may have
Found a suit in my closet
…
Spooky
It’s a 44R
But maybe I can move the button out a bit
And it would fit ok
It’s a little wrinkled
What's wrong with the other suit?
I could return it and save $150 if this one works
That’s all..
I’d rather do that lol.. I didn’t know I had this suit..
Looks charcoal to me
Thought it needed to be black?
Hmm is it
I’ll compare it
I think it is grey
Could send a pic and ask your sister if it’s okay 🤷♂️
I’ll ask her tonight
wait isn't this the suit from here https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1166799947413323867
No
That’s a grey flannel
Yes that’s the one
similar to yours and other's past remarks on that suit it's too small imo
and i do not think there's enough fabric to move the button to for it to be able to fit
I think the other suit is too big
The black one
yeah the $150 one you got looks better
Really
yeah
most of whats "wrong" with the $150 suit can be fixed via alterations
the one you got from your closet is pulling at the front
you have a better fitting suit in your possession now. imo front pulling is one of the worst looking usual suspects in wrong sizing
like if the wedding was tomorrow, i would safety pin an inside cuff on the trousers of the $150 suit and put up with the sleeves before wearing a jacket thats too tight
mayybe even inside cuff on the sleeve. thats a semicursed solution but my point is front pull bad
thats not actual advice, more just a comparison knowing time is of the essence or whatever
i also mentioned this above but this back and forth is not worth getting back $150
Bread if I were you I would take the black suit to a tailor today to get it altered, and let them know you have a deadline at least a few days in advance of the wedding
^
actual advice
you can totally pay for a rush job somewhere
another voice: closet suit is way too small
Don't wait for other suits to appear from your closet and don't look for other suits online
The black suit fits you well and looks good, just needs a few very minor and common alterations
you have 3 weeks right
ive had some stuff altered before and it look like 2 weeks. however idk where you live, maybe more people are getting stuff altered there
Alright
Go today to a tailor
Do the thing
Let them know your deadline
They are simple alterations and ask if they can turn it around in time
Or call all nearby tailors
I've had similar alterations done in way less time but you just want to make your expectations explicit - some shops are much slower than others or have a backlog of work
