Making it work: a slightly mis-sized blazer
So I got a great deal on a Lands End Harris Tweed jacket that ended up being ever so slightly mis-sized.
As you can see the shoulders are a touch big and the waist is a touch small.
But I intend to make it work anyways.
My plan is: Take out what little padding there is in the shoulders to minimize any weird dimples or folds, and have a tailor take out the waist as much as is possible. Take out the lining to reduce structure even further. The aim would be to make it look like kind of a slouchy professor-type jacket as light outerwear for spring and fall. I might only be able to make it work unbuttoned, but it is what it is.
What do y’all think?

What kind of liner is it? Might not benefit much from removing.
I’d be interested to see the result of removing the shoulder pads
It’s a regular viscose liner. It made sense to because I might get a little more space in the arms? I reckon it could reduce bulk just a little and tbh every little bit matters if I want to get this right.
There not a lot of padding in the shoulders, but is it a little bit, so I hope it’ll make the intended difference.
I think the padding in the shoulders is fine actually
This is kind of the direction I wanted to take it in re: the shoulders
These looks like there’s no structure in there at all
Ah I see, more like a work jacket type thing
Yeah - work jacket but blazer was the idea
Last time I thought about removing the shoulders my tailor talked me out of it based on the cost/ complexity/ risk.
On the other hand my tailor tried to talk me into removing shoulder pads from a Yohji blazer and told me it would be very easy
Might depend on how hard it is to navigate the liner

I had it done to this coat (including reshaping the shoulders) and honestly it went great
Ok, good to hear from both of you. Time to find a new tailor.
Back to your post, I definitely think you can work with this jacket. Especially if you're open to not buttoning it.
