Is an over shoulder tied sweater over another sweater acceptable
I really like the look of sweaters wrapped over like a scarf like the first photo. But I’m curious as to whether doing it over another sweater is acceptable. From a logical point of view - why would you need two sweaters, but from a look point of view I don’t hate it.
See second pic.

Nothing is unacceptable if you can pull it off. I don't think it looks good in the vast majority of cases. It's like double popped collars. There are people who can pull it off but I'd consider it a higher skill level move.
The guy on the right looks pretty bad to my eye. The cable he's using over his shoulder would work a lot better with the light denim than the navy quarter zip.
The phrase hat on a hat exists for a reason.
I think it can work as a parody of prep. If its done seriously it looks corny as fuck.
I could see Zeo or Charlie pulling it off.
I would actually bet money on one of them already having done that.
So i think both of those pictures are bad.
IMO it’s also a pretty horrible style move for most people (Edna had it right when she said “No capes!”) but Ethan has had some valuable insights on the topic: https://alittlebitofrest.com/2018/10/18/the-tied-sweater-worn-on-the-shoulder/

The Tied Sweater Worn on The Shoulder
Is it bad that I like this look? I promise that I’m not a douche. Most of the time.

i share similar views to the others, namely that the example pictures are not great but that there's nothing inherently "wrong" with doing it
you've acknowledged the limited heat retention benefit but if you like wearing two sweaters for some other reason - for aesthetics, to avoid shoving one in a bag, because it feels good to you, etc - then do so.
never understood this trend ngl, but I also don’t understand the whole old money aesthetic, it’s a perversion of the finance bro / conservative menswear aesthetics done worse imo. But yes it’s acceptable if you’re going for this specific aesthetic, otherwise I would wear away as it seems unnecessary and inelegant
it's just prep lmfao
ngl maybe it’s my perception but it is almost indistinguishable from what I see the early career guys in finance wearing nowadays so it’s all been jumbled in my brain
old money is more like my family has a Wikipedia page
I meant the aesthetic
or my school was a castle and I wore a suit
it's supposed to be like a royal family member or an aristocrat
of course trying to look like prince William or something is extremely cringe don't get me wrong
yeah extremely
it's trendy clothing that's also workplace appropriate - less effort in picking clothes because they pull double duty
less of a difference than like 10 years ago when finance bros all wore the same j.crew gingham and fleece vest
there’s definitely a distinctive break between the Patagonia vest wearer finance bros and the quarter zip finance bros
I grew up with one of those
not ideal
that said this was a fun discussion on the trend and my thoughts are there https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1250117343493754963

It's only okay if the sweaters are from Lemaire
Thanks all, I do in fact like the prep look, but defo not trying to go for the “old money” aesthetic, think it’s a bit pretentious. Right now I mainly go for a pseudoprep look, a bit more laidback.
The best thing I can tell you is that a shawl / scarf will achieve the same look without looking out of place
