Kinda poor, looking for a job, need some decent cheap outfits to look good while going to interviews and just everyday wear, nothing corp, but acceptable.
Any pictures needed just request.
I don't have much money, really dont want to spend more than $100, i have new heydudes if that matters 🤷♂️

what you wear to interviews will depend on the job and what you wear for "everyday wear" will depend on what kinds of things you do (are you a student, are you raising a newborn, etc) and what kind of outfits you like
your physical size has little bearing on these
probably the most important thing is figuring out "what you want to look like", and checking #waywt or #inspiration or pics 9nline will help with that
i understand, it wont be anything special, literally just sitting entering data, so any decent everyday wear would be fine
that's legit my job
i dont even have anything guaranteed, just sit in city hall and enter data from the sewage readings
but id like to look decent too haha
i think i get what you're saying though, the question is "what is decent to you?"
well, my entire life i've never wore anything other than a $10 walmart tshirt and some elastic shorts/pants
maybe some jeans
thats about it
think, the most casual sit around lazy wear you can think of, is what i wear everyday
and since im in texas, and the panhandle is starting to turn winter, would be a good time to shop, i only got like $100~ to spend

ooo visuals
i like visuals
clothes are more expensive than you think, so buy secondhand https://malefashionadvice.substack.com/p/secondhand-shopping-guide-motivation
Secondhand Shopping: Guide, Motivation, and Inspiration
This guide comprises three parts.
here's the thing
i know clothes are expensive
i did this
which is why i wear the cheapest laziest clothes possible
you're going to need to invest some energy if you care about making this change, be it through time, money or effort
yeah its not going to happen then
i appreciate the time you took to chat with me
was hoping it was just as simple as "heres some casual every day work clothes that is generally acceptable and looks decent"
im not a fashion person at all, ill just stick to my $10 sweats and shirts at walmart
oh I see
maybe some jeans and thats it
that is a visual with clothes
the linked article has brand recs
buy the stuff secondhand
some peopel LOVE fashion, but im not here to make a scene, just here to not look homeless
lol
many people here are not into "fashion", they're into finding good clothes that work for them
yeah but from everything i saw, i need a mini degree to read through all this and a lot of money and time
which i dont have
why not
if you're actively job hunting you just need like one or two outfits
because i have $100 to my name and barely might have a job opportunity
i don't have any of these special budget clothing shops near me
so id be buying online
i live in town of 2000 people so, anything that any big city has for options, i don't have.
are there thrift purchases or donation centers (churches, social service depts, school if youre enrolled) near you
the only "donation" box we have, we throw old clothes we don't want into it for the local homeless
how many local homeless are there in a town of 2000 people lol
used to be 1, now its like 4 or 5
but yeah i dont have any of these options yall have lol, either be buying new or online and hoping they fit
and if a shirt is tight around my armpits, ill burn it with fire
ok well nobody can help you here if you can't even read stuff
so like, not sure what you want to do my guy
i can read stuff
it feels lke you're adding conditions to your needs
can you
just not gonna sit and read a giant article about fashion and clothing and forgot what i read 20% the way through
i have adhd
join the club
have a problem reading and comprehending without going over it 100 times
so youd understand
i literally have 0 conditions other than not look homeless
thats all
and if a shirt is tight around my armpits, ill burn it with fire
yes
because its EXTREMELY uncomfortable
?
the only "donation" box we have, we throw old clothes we don't want into it for the local homeless
yes?
thats the problem with small towns
none of this is to shame you
do you just ASSUME people have thrift shops
like im here because if it was as easy as going into a thrift store, i would have done so already
but if i'm reading correctly you'd like 1) an easy "this is how to look presentible" picture and 2) how to find all of those clothes for sub-$100
1) it's pictured
2) check ebay
ok thank you!
if you have a shirt or pants that fit decently, measure those and compare them to the items on the listing
buy a button down shirt and a nice pair of pants
i usually dont have pants that ever fit right, it's either too tight in the thighs or too loose in the back
not sure how to fix that
take pictures of how the pant fits and post in #questions-and-advice
it might be "buy a bigger size" or "buy a looser fit" or "buy a higher rise" or "wear a belt"
probably a looser fit with a belt
also 3) you've gotta shift out of the mindset that stuff can't happen for you or that you're destined to not have decent things
i don't have that mindset
im simply being honest where im at in my life
im not in the future, i can't bring things from the future into the presnet
i only have available to me, what i have now.
alright then my apologies for misreading
see 1 and 2
take pics if you're unsure of how things fit
good luck
from what ive gathered from this convo tho, evne buying second hand seems like im not even going to be able to afford this stuff
and a lot of this is using previous clothes that fit right to measure to order online
i dont have any previous clothes that fit right to use as a reference point
so do i measure myself or something?
yes
and how does one do that, alone
ty
just so annoying because Each individual brand even if measured right, is always going to fit differently
can buy an XL shirt of one brand, and XL of another, and it seems like its 2 sizes smaller
@zeometer dont mean to be annoying and dismissive of you either, just frustrated and was really hoping it was as simple as "heres a couple options, buy some that fit and youll look good"
but it seems like its $100's and days or weeks of research
XL is not a "measurement," and this is why it's good to have your own measurements. A t-shirt that's like 25" length 25" width will fit about the same as some other t-shirt with those same measurements (idk i guess ignoring shoulders). Two XLs from different brands are pretty much anyones guess
ah this makes sense
If you are able to go to a store, try stuff on, and find something that fits, and measure that item (without buying it), then you can use those measurements as references for buying cheaper stuff on ebay or whatever. Then again this will still take some time
oo smart
if im ever in town again.. hopefully this month, ill go try some on at a mall or something idk
you may also find inexpensive clothes on Facebook marketplace near you
why is fashion so difficult tf
clothes are mass produced to fit the most amount of bodies so people (some good, some evil corporations) can earn money
recommend getting a soft tape measure like this btw
it's not your fault or an attack on you that clothes don't fit ideally off the rack
since im from the texas panhandle, i wonder if i should just lean into the casual southern outfit
not full cowboy
what does that look like to you; i'm a coastal elite lol
yes these are asbolutely needed i found out a year ago
hmm.. yeah tahts hard for you to picture then
HAHA
/s by the way but you get what I mean
but like LESS cowboy
you know?
so no hat
i do
no hat and no boots
maybe khakis instead of jeans
a decent belt, some decent khakis, button up shirt?
sounds like a plan
i dont wanna be a pretend cowboy since im a computer nerd you know
but i dont wanna stand out like im from big cities or the coast
since well im not lol
im from the dusty ol texas plains
i get what you're saying especially within the context of where you're located
in a general sense i would typically say "wear what you like and fuck anyone who judges" but that is a little different when you're dealing with prospective employers
well if it makes you feel any better
the POTENTIAL job i might get is just "office" job
filled with office ladies
lmfao
idk i wanna bang my head against the wall until the images appear
Is driving to Lubbock or Amarillo to try on clothes at the mall not an option
if i had reliable transportation
absolutelty
but its a 60-100 mile round trip
and i generally only go once a month
it's worth planning perhaps
perhaps, just isnt isnt in the realm of possibilities currently
i could get a call to come get an application after newyears
check out borger
that's the closest thing to me
maybe they have something i missed
but from my first glance its just retail stores with $70 shirts
or womans clothing stores
it might be worth checking for womenswear
im not comfortable enough in my masculinity to do so
with the amount of money you have every option should be on the table
to buy it or to wear it
i mean if i bought it, itd be for a woman
i definitely wouldnt wear womans clothing
its not me.
there's not a lot of difference between a white button down shirt marketed for men than for women other than price
some minor adjustments in the shoulder or chest, but numeric measurements will still apply
im all good, i feel a little uncomfortable you suggested to wear womans clothing for me
okay
that was an effort to expand the number of options you have
feels like a disrespectful option, even if you didn't mean it that way
and i know you just want to help
my apologies
no reason to apologize, im sure someone would be happy to hear that option
just not me lol
the advice you've been given is probably plentiful enough for you to get a good start
i can find a white buttoned down tshirt
thats no big deal
okay then start with that
its the most common underlayment of clothing to build ontop of
and they're like $15 or something
thanks for all the help zeometer
great
white shirt, khakis, belt is probably a good start for $100
until i get some spaghetti sauce on it
i agere
what would you put over white buttonup
at this exact time nothing
my man boobs are gonna show through the white 😰
in general, a sweater or a jacket. i wear white button downs often in #waywt the pictures will probably do more justice
no just honesty self talk
HAHAH
we're usually more critical of ourselves than others are of us, even under the bill of honest self assessment
people probably do not give a shit
yeah but at the end of the day it matter swhat i think
and if im uncomfortable with manboobs showing and being outlined in a white shirt with nothing to cover it
does that not lead to insecurity
that's a fair point which is why I'd also add "wear an undershirt or tank top if you're uncomfortable"
ahhh
ok ok makes sense now
i could always just lose weight but that's a lot longer of a journey than just buying clothes
that is correct
or at least, it's a journey that may be done in tandem with buying clothes but yeah, healthy weight loss takes time
buy stuff that fits you and that you feel good in now, and see what happens especially once you get a steady income in
i did that when i got my first "adult" job and while it was annoying to rotate through the same two shirts and pants each day people do not care
you said you do data entry correct?
you mind if i DM and ask some questions off the top of your head
sure - my job title is different but in practice it's a lot of data entry
that's fine, maybe youll be able to shed some light
sent the DM, feel free to reply whenever.
over the course of this thread a lot of stuff was brought up - i applaud your willingness to think through and to be forthright with your needs and concerns
that's really the big "secret" to dressing well - recognizing what you need in clothes (fit, style, function, cost, means), finding ways to get those, and then pursuing them
that, and time - it's not going to be an overnight "thing" but it's possible. keep hanging in there, keep exploring the other parts of the discord (the clothes parts and the other ones) and ask questions as needed
you probably already got a lot of answers
but id
* wear neutral colors (white ,black, grey)
* take your measurements, get clothes that fit
* avoid logos, graphics, heavy branding
* get an accessory or two for casual outfits
ty all for the help!
