Brushes twitching
Everytime i use a new brush it twitches a few feet down. And when i keep using them they twitch. Even with simplification and changing the graphics setting it still stays. I triev to use evey version. With experimental brushes, without, beta, it's all the same across. Also tried to reinstall it and install from github, tried updating driver and fumbling with settings in the app. Still the same. Have no idea what might be causing this because i don't have those issues in any other games i play like beat saber or open blocks. The only way it stops is if i revert to the older version without half the brushes and stuff available which sucks because i love experimental brushes.
just in case here are my specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 5600 3.5 GHz
16 gb RAM
AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT
Oculus Rift s

I think there's two completely separate problems here.
1. The strokes glitching to have a random point added at the origin.
2. That weird flickering you see on the second video.
I'm going to focus on (1) initially - we can make another post for (2) if/when we've resolved this.
The good news is - I can reproduce this when running in the Editor. I assumed it was just because the editor adds a ton of overhead but apparently not. I suspect if I can fix it for myself, then it will fix it for you.
yeah i know about the second issue, there is a post with it here so i decided not to adress it as i wanted to mostly resolve the glitchy brushes. It's the problem with the graphics settings. 1 being normal, 2 white, 3 having those flickering and 4 seemingly mostly normal.
Ah - right. Same as that.
good to have another video of it
this one looks like something as simple as the pointer position returning zero when the system is too busy to update in time. If I can catch when it happens and return a less annoying value - that should fix it.
oh i have a bit more of the flickering issue footage while i was playing around. Can send it if you need it
No - I think I'm fine with what I've got.
Can you try a build from here: https://nightly.link/icosa-foundation/open-brush/actions/runs/12558586553
and see if there's any improvement for you?
I tried it and nothing seems different. The twitching is still there. Although i noticed that when i'm in the main screen there is a cursor thingy right at the bottom center
that's normal (should fix it one day)
OK. Another build for you to try: https://nightly.link/icosa-foundation/open-brush/actions/runs/12561717934
this seems to make a difference for me - but it doesn't happen to me that often so i might have just been lucky
This is generally a sign that the CPU is maxing out. the controller tracking is skipped for one frame and so you get the glitch. You might want to check task manager for something eating up all your juice.
Anti-virus, automatic backup software - anything that runs all the time.
(the above is a theory as i haven't done any profiling. But it happens to me when my machine is running especially slow or hot)
thats the thing my cpu is 40 percent at max when i use Open brush. And i have all the anti viruses turned off. 🤷♀️
hmmmm. 40% might still be bad if something is hogging the same core as Open Brush. Or it might be i/o bottlenecks
Rift S is USB. I wonder if it's a USB issue
i mean i have a recording i did with the task manager over the mirroring. And the biggest thing except open brush was chrome.
also- 40% when you look at task manager. it might spike for one frame to 100%
Anyway - the fix I put in place disregards any point where the controller returns exactly 0,0,0 - it's a crude fix but hopefully it should solve this.
see if that build helps
it does help a bit. But not the brush flies not tothe bottom but somewhere in front of where i am currently standing. And it seemingly occurs less now? or no i dunno. I don't have time today to test it a bit more since it's new years
oh and it seems to always happen on when i am first time using the brush
that's interesting. not sure exactly what it means but it's definitely interesting.
I've been testing out this fix myself and it seems to help the issue a lot. I get it when I'm doing way too much (lots of plugins, stuff running in the background) but it seems bearable.
What's you experience @avan korr ?
It has been a looot better. I didn't have that much time to test it around though but the time i had the twitching was a lot less, though still present. It still twitches for particularly no reason even when the only things i'm running are like discord, steam and open brush and thats all.
I just thought though i don't have an ssd for my games could it be somehow connected to that or no? cause i see spikes in my hdd use when the brushes twitch but they're not that big?. But the app weight like nothing so i don't think, i just thought i'd bring it up as well.
and the shading flickering bugs me still so i don't use open brush as much because of that too
