Need help finding a Chinese seamstress or Tailor
Hey! I’m looking to hire a Chinese seamstress or tailor to create custom robes. I’ve taken on the role of Meng Tian’s pupil, and one thing that has always stood out to me is the beauty of traditional robes. While some may disagree, I find them to be both incredibly beautiful and comfortable, with their flowing sleeves and elegant designs.
I specifically want to hire someone from the Chinese culture to honor and support the heritage, as they would likely understand the fine details of the design better than I or others might. I’m envisioning six robes in total: three that are less formal but still fancy, and three royal, high end versions. These robes would blend traditional design elements with a classic military jacket style, featuring buttons on the side.
As a military general and tactician, I typically won’t wear a shirt or shoes in daily life. However, for events, meetings, holidays, and special occasions, I want to wear these robes. For work, I’ll have separate attire.

taken on the role like in a play
?
No in the way I protect the world! In my military general and tactician role!
Kind of furthering his legacy.
Thank you for your service 🫡
Thank you I do wish to clarify so I don’t misdirect anyone. I do not serve no country including the US. They would ally and serve under guidelines. I follow. I protect a village called Havre de fleurs et d’espoir.
Oh good
gonna be real big dawg, I would not go around wearing traditional chinese clothing if I myself wasn't chinese
That’s understandable. Some may originally see it as bad but with further context. Most would understand.
I wear them out of respect, and honestly how comfortable they are.
do you post on lemmy
Yeah 😅
I’d also consider to add this. There’s a reason I’m not just wearing basic robes themselves they’d be a good mix between more common day military jackets with the buttons on the side and a slight tactical look while still keeping the robe and flowing look. That way I’m not just directly copying.
Also it is very common for traditions to mix and intertwine. Though it’s how one goes about it whether stealing and not respecting the origins of an idea. Than respecting and specifically hiring a person from that heritage to be part of the process to make sure small details aren’t missed!! Also as someone who is autistic those selves will be soooo nice!! Though I look to plan to pay them high amounts and possibly sourcing the materials. Any they need and ask for the process.
Sounds like you have a plan so I will withhold opinion
Good luck dawg
Thanks dude!!
I would like to mention though even with my idea. I wouldn’t mind hearing others opinions and possibly how to make sure I respect this idea more. So I understand if you wish to still withhold your input but don’t feel like you have to.
I feel like you would get the most authentic product if you were able to travel directly to China — I believe it would be quite difficult to have something that bespoke made outside of a place where those cultural influences have the capacity to interact.
I imagine that your position as a general might enable you to ask around for a contact for a tailor in that region, if you have good standing with some of those folks — I assume whom also associate with Meng Tian (though admittedly idk who that is)
I’d wager for fully bespoke garments, you’d be looking at a few thousand each, and a few months of lead time with a few intermediate fittings.
Where is this village located?
Somewhere between South America and Japan!
Well that's specific.
I would really love to! Travel to China. Eventually I will be a nomadic person. China will be place I’ll have a house! I haven’t yet made any military inquiries to China yet so it’d be a start. Closes I’ve came is peace treaties with Russia and Ukraine and how that’d included them.
Also for sure I thought if paying them 10-100x more!
Sorry it’s really off the grid more.
Too bad those peace treaties didn't work out.
i’m gonna. go on a limb here and say if you’re looking for something to wear to larp in you could just say that
Well, it’s doubtful that you would be someone I have to be worried about within releasing information. I don’t want to risk me not knowing who I’m talking to mainly because I know the FBI is watching me.
Honestly I feel like we’re not equipped to help you with your specific request here.
Should you ever want some second hand PRL pants, boy oh boy will there be some advice.
Rather these robes would be a mix of more casual event, clothing, and or high event clothing. Such as the three royal robes would be worn in high stake peace treaties in otherwise.
Ohh ok. Thank you though!! For allowing me to publish in your community.
I hope you get the help you need man.
Seek therapy before seeking a tailor
Why would you say this? It is an absolute unprecedented move in this conversation. Moving from respecting a cultural inheritance through being a pupil while still respecting the core culture by wearing inspired clothing for things like peace treaties and military functions. To just seek therapy. In all seriousness. Saying to seek therapy in itself is not a bad thing but saying it so shallow and without further context makes it almost disrespectful for the depth and friendliness or even thoughtful challenge discussed in this thread. If you can please further clarify and explain what you wish or forever hold your peace. Mainly when unfriendly commentary is not needed in a respectful discussion. While not everyone delved deep into conversation they gave effort in a constructive way.
this is firmly beyond my domain both culturally and aesthetically but etsy might be an option
good luck Venus, I'd never have the courage to wear chinese robes outside of home
Which military are you a general in and why are you breaching infosec by posting about that on a fashion discord?
I’m not breaking anything. I’ve said everything I’m allowed to say and within context of this post. Also my private military. Which is why above I said this
“Thank you I do wish to clarify so I don’t misdirect anyone. I do not serve no country including the US. They would ally and serve under guidelines. I follow. I protect a village called Havre de fleurs et d’espoir.”
This is a message for in general not just you atm: when shown the correct respect to the clothing and heritage. The social issues mainly go away. Though as always. It’s important to consider the nuances between cultural appropriation and cultural adaption.
Though to You Spitfrog: Thank you!
Ooooo yeah! Etsy may actually work. Though I’d be concerned if I can actually verify the creator for their heritage and their knowledge. Since trying to maintain a level of respect. I would want to make sure it’s someone from that heritage unless they are an agreed upon like historian for clothes who knows how to make them and their are vetted by a Chinese seamstress or else wise.
it would prob depend on where you live
Yeah officially you are just commenting to comment. It seems like.
Yeah I’ll upcoming be living between countries a few spots I already know. The peaks of British Columbia and China on a mountain edge. Though the fun part the government won’t know until they come greet me. Since I’ll be taking on a self sustaining technology nomad.
Ok I think OP has got plenty of good information from this and helpful answers have run their course.
