Thoughts on suits from contemporary brands?
My BR and Suit Supply suits are getting worn out. As my casual wardrobe has expanded into some mid level contemporary brands, I'm curious what the consensus is on their suits. Take these APC suits for instance. Should these be treated more as a less formal alternate due to pockets, soft shoulder, etc? Or could the 2nd one work just fine as a main charcoal staple? Is there a chance the "fashion" brands are overcharging for a suit compared to something I'd get at Suit Supply since it's not their bread and butter? Thoughts welcome.

"overcharge" really depends on what you value and need. None of these questions can really be answered in a vacuum as it matters what you want out of a suit.
These are less traditional than SuitSupply and similar which may be what you want or counter productive to your goals.
I personally wouldn't wear these suits but that's not any sort of judgement being passed on them. I simply prefer more traditional tailoring and if I were to wear less conventional tailoring I'd probably go in a different direction bc of my style and preferences.
Strictly speaking I would call these less formal but whether that matters depends on the contexts they'll be worn in and what you're trying to achieve
I like the suiting from mfpen
i feel it depends on the individual brand and individual suit, as beans said. if you're interested in apc or any particular brand's design aesthetic/history/ethos, you have to decide if that appeals in situations where you need a suit
i'm not a fan of those suits but i'm also not a fan of apc so take that for what its worth; i like eg's bedford "suit" and the tailoring from scott fraser collection
