Secondhand Tweed Sport Coat
I’m looking for a tweed sport coat kinda like the ones in these photos. I really like the vibe of the warm textured sweaters (80% of my wardrobe) with the brown tweed(?).
I don’t wear tailoring often - really just navy suits for weddings - so it’s new territory for me and I’m looking for tips on what to look out for, especially in terms of fit, silhouette, and construction.
I’m looking second hand right now, cause I’m not ready to spend $400. I found these items on eBay with a quick search. The fabric and pattern looks similar. Is there anything about them that’s off, either in terms of their overall quality or how the fit compares to the inspo pics? https://www.ebay.com/itm/387660295324? https://www.ebay.com/itm/146257734017?

You want to look for patch pockets. The first one from RL looks like a decent option but might end up a bit short.
I could write paragraphs about the details to look out for but they tend to be really hard to find on eBay tbh and may not make a difference to you in the end
I would skip the 2nd one. You're looking for a ivy styled jacket and that one isn't it
I will qualify this by saying that unless you really care about the patch pockets flapped pockets are absolutely fine as well imo. I would avoid jetted pockets though.
What makes them ivy vs … English country? (is that the style of the second one?)
(painting with a broad brush here)
Ivy is going to be less structured jackets with a boxier cut. The 2nd link is a Hacking jacket (sorta) which has the slanted pockets but more importantly has that very defined and trim waist, more structure in the shoulders, etc.
You're looking for a 2 button or a 3-roll-2 button configuration jacket with softer natural shoulders and a boxier cut than that 2nd jacket.
Also the tweed in your inspo are very reddish-brown and that one is way more blue/green. Not a bad fabric, just a big difference. I'm totally blanking on the names of the checks in the inspo jackets as well.
Polo Ralph Lauren is going to be a good option to look thru to try and find a jacket. If you're unsure feel free to post pics of them in a new thread here and folks can help you determine if it's a good jacket or not
Look at the buttoning point (and lapels) too
first pic in your inspo is glen plaid, second is...tattersall in tweed i think?
The first jacket has a much lower buttoning point and lapels
The second jacket is made from a nice wool (although the pattern isn't my favorite) but otherwise I'm not a big fan
i prefer 1 > 2 of the two options but there's a lot of options out there
vintage j.press, pendleton and southwick are other options for brands
I'd say if there's something to consider with the first jacket is it may go a little too far in terms of being old fashioned
Chaps and polo university were the lower level lines for ralph lauren but by today's standards I think they're quite nice. I've seen them in thrift stores for very little fyi
in terms of silhouette i'll second beans - less tapered, softer shoulder, unlined or half-canvas so there's less structure
Thanks, think I’ve got a track to follow now!
eBay is great for tweed, and it can be very affordable there too. You can find no-name vintage stuff that is 🔥 . I recommend a pretty broad saved search, and look for colors and patterns you like. The thick wool is pretty forgiving as far as construction and drape.
all this is making me want to do is buy a tweed sport coat
Did some eBay searches last night, and I think these are the best that are available rn. Leaning toward the first LL Bean one.
I realized the inspo pictures are from Drakes. Unfortunately I like their lookbook photos more than my wallet does!

Bottom of collar to bottom of jacket =31". pit to pit =23". Shoulder seam to end of cuff =24.5".
i would say go with the 3rd one bc the brand is fancy or whatever, but honestly i think ur right with the first one
Honestly the 3rd one is mostly there cause of the brand lol. Color isn’t really what I’m looking for rn, tho it is a good piece.
ll bean one looks good
Make sure the measurements work for you. I see a 38R and a 40R between those 3 options
of the three i like the ll bean the most
zegna soft is a diffusion line of zegna; that's not a knock on its quality, but it's not a $2000 sport coat you're getting on the cheap https://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/threads/zegna-soft.49712/
