FOMO - Topic of the day 12/14/24

The only thing you have to fear is fear itself, but a close second may be missing out. Whether an item or brand to buy/not buy, or a trend to follow, how do you handle this feeling when it occurs? Can this feeling be spun into a positive somehow?

Fear of Not Having More Money for Jawnz for me Often this feeling will lead me to getting something as a cope and they never last. The upside there is the stuff that does stick around is that much more rewarding

Embrace trends if you want to or don't it doesn't matter much it's just clothes If it's an item for sale never hesitate or else the regret will consume you and you'll spend even more trying to extinguish it This has been life tips with sal stay tuned for the next episode
Walmart the Conqueror
Buy everything that you see on sale, even if you don't want it

i think the only brand i get serious fomo with that i pay close attention to is the findlay hats guys but that’s because they do weekly friday drops of limited edition embroidered snapbacks and dad caps. the good news is about 60-80% of most drops on average don’t interest me at all. the bad news is sometimes i get home to more seriously think about ordering something (because usually i’m checking the drop out on the clock cause i keep working late fridays) and the few hats i actually wanted are gone

like… this was one of three hats i was interested in from the fishing drop and by the time i got home to order it was the only one i wanted still left

i need to stop posting that image uncropped i keep forgetting i took that with an ancient bed stain visible but usually i combat a lot of fomo from limited availability stuff with the old “if it’s still there when i get paid it’s mine”

The main instance of fomo I experience is cool secondhand stuff popping up on Vinted. many impulse purchases were born that way
Please Go Away
I simply live in blissful ignorance of all trends while they're actually cool and learn about them 5-12 years later

thankfully I have never felt pressured to buy into trends to fit in but I did used to feel uncomfortable wearing some pieces because of how bold they were but now I dont care. like I have these Teal wide leg trousers felt uncomfortable wearing such a loud colour trouser but feel fine now and dont really care looking to buy a nice purple one with a slight flare

i always feel fomo when i dont buy anything on a sale day (i.e. black friday) but if it's not exactly what I'm looking for under a price i find reasonable i just wont get it and i think im coming to terms with that, i would rather have one garment that i wait forever to find (hence me still wearing 2 year old beater adidas) than a bunch that are fine

I feel it less and less now that I basically buy everything secondhand. There's always more Cool Old Shit on eBay.

Well there is one upside of being a basic bastard I hadn't considered....really no clothing related fomo. Pretty sure plain white ocbds will still exist tomorrow, next week and five years from now in forms nearly identical to those today. Closest I get is being annoyed when I miss a sale.
