styling feedback: carhartt jacket, chinos, black shirt, dark denim jacket
So I came up with this fit yesterday night, after I came home from work. This morning however, I'm not sure if it really works.

I’d add a belt.
Also I’m personally not a fan of the denim jacket under the Carhartt jacket. The cool thing about the Carhartt is how cropped it is and I think you’re kinda taking away from that.
Then - and this is purely a personal thing - I’d choose another color shirt, but that’s just me not liking black shirts.

yeah no lie i wasn't wearing glasses and thought this was just a randomly long carhartt in the pics vs two jackets
whether that was an intended visual effect or not i do not know
what inspiration or intention were you aiming for when pulling this stuff together, if i may ask?
I didn't really use any inspo :bloberm:
that's fair; sometimes a fit is a matter of "i was trying combos out" and thought this looked cool 👍
i/people will often ask because if there was a specific reference picture in mind it's easier to give specific feedback on how close/far away from the reference you landed
imo a light-colored hoodie or sweater might be a better midlayer than the jacket
In addition to stuff already mentioned it seems a lot of your go to mid/base layers seem to be dark colours. I'd experiment with some lighter colours (white, cream, beige, grey, light blue) for you t-shirts and shirts.
I can see the makings of a great outfit in here with a few tweaks! Aside from what’s already been mentioned, I think the challenge from the Carhartt jacket is that it’s color blocked (albeit in what looks to be relatively neutral colors), and that is supposed to be somewhat eye catching but to my eyes at first glance other parts of the fit are drawing my attention away from it, such as the even darker midlayer creating such a clear contrast point with the light colored pants. Because it’s such a cool piece I’d prefer to see it be the statement but it’s being lost in some other details. I think to start out styling this jacket it might be best to keep it simpler at first, then from there you can work in things that are your thing to complement the piece.
I look forward to your next fit with it!
Ok :linkThink:
ya i think a lighter shirt and no denim layer and this is solid. if it's a warmth thing you could always find a shorter inner layer, im a big fan of the collar-less uniqlo vests for that
also agree that a belt helps visually when you're tucking
i think a lighter shirt would help contrast the jacket which has a unique pattern on it, i think the coolness of the carhartt gets a bit lost with the black shirt.
I'm considering adding a beige hoodie to replace the denim jacket. Same one as in here: https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1308361931069067334
I didn't mention but for a base layer I got a Uniqlo heattech Ultrawarm t shirt
I think that would work much better 👍

:linkThink: Does it work today?
Imo I think it does.
Much better mid layer yeah, and color wise I think it’s a step up. For me, I think the color matching between the hoodie and the top sections of the jacket ends up merging those two bits in a way I would personally avoid. But reasonable people could definitely disagree on that.
better than the previous fit
notably i didn't realize how interesting the jacket was (i thought it was just two colors blocked vs four); that's something that's more apparent with the lighter midlayer
i saw this too; i think the hoodie might be making the issue more pronounced (vs a sweatshirt or sweater, which isn't covering the contrast collar)
definitely a matter of preference (imo the tonal fit without the jacket is also pretty good, if not firmly in your ideal aesthetic 👍)
