Undershirt Survey

Getting dressed this morning, for warmth I thought about wearing an undershirt. I usually always just wear my button ups done up, and almost never with an undershirt. I never really liked the bit of wimpy tee collar peeking out. I think maybe I’m softening on the idea as I get nicer button ups I want to protect (although I suffer more from collar ring than pit stains so idk how much it helps..not 2 b gross) I found it can look a little better/intentional with a mockneck? And maybe could work with a scoop neck so u don’t see the collar? I know some people do tanks. Do u wear an undershirt? If so what kind and when Do u just go shirt on and not worry about it? please help w my neuroses

It really depends on the shirt and how much chest I want to show tbh. Tank for more chest, regular tee for less chest. Also when the shirt looks like something you wear in colder weather I feel like a visible tee feels more congruent. For example I dont mind it with a snap button western denim shirt, but when I happen to wear something drapy-silk adjacent that normally would scream summer I go with a tank if you know what I mean?

I bought a 3 pack of white v neck undershirts recently for this reason

I save on washing the button ups bc I wash every other wear now but I wash the undershirts every time And it’s nice too when it’s cold out bc it’s an extra layer And you’re never gonna take off the shirt so it being an ugly v neck isn’t bad I used to wear ribbed tanks underneath but I didn’t like that my armpits were exposed and it was kinda uncomfortable And would show up As a marking On the top layer

v necks are meant to be worn not seen or smth

as char said this is a solved problem, buy vneck undershirts also white is generally a bad undershirt color (suprisingly) because it will show through white clothes easily, try grey or skin tone matching shirts instead you can always cut a deeper v in the undershirt if needed too

If it’s a thermal layer with a high neck and nice texture I think it looks good under a shirt

Yeah I love layering a button up over a turtle neck, but this does kinda confirm my “if it doesn’t look super super intentional don’t let it be seen” line of thinking

I don’t think it has to be a full turtleneck but yeah it for sure looks better if it’s more than just a white tee

Totally. Those waffle thermals or something like u said. Just something substantial

I feel like the visible white crewneck undershirt has become so ubiquitous in its almost-professionalism that it's less offensive than ever, unless you're as neurotic and judgemental as me so either hide your shame or go hyper intentional with a turtleneck but don't pick a tneck that's bulkier in fabric weight than your button up or else something in the universal balance of things gets thrown off tneck under poplin or oxford cloth button shirt :kennyno: tneck under cotton flannel or wool button shirt :kennyyes:

Yeah you’ve perfectly articulated it. Not to be a sick fuck @Sal but do u have a fit of yours wearing one of these under a button up I think it’s also that most of the button ups are dressy cotton poplins and I don’t want to look like a sad middle manager ya

My favourite part of undershirts is that my cold belt buckle never rubs directly on my soft tender underbelly

I usually do this I think it’s fine

For the same reason I like having a necklace fill that empty space

I also wear these, and I have a couple that I've cut the necks even lower for camp collars and shirts I want to wear unbuttoned even lower. I am a schwitzy mf so I could never get away without an undershirt.

Yeah but that was different context

Deep v neck undershirts are the best investment for westing under button downs
