Denim Washes - Topic of the day 12/1/24
There are so many washes of denim to choose from! It’s overwhelming!!!! How do you choose which wash to wear? Which is your favorite? And do you like your jeans to match your jacket?

I like mid, works best with my fits 🥁
Beach wash obviously.
Raw or die. Raw Japanese selvedge denim my love 😍
Not a wash per se, but I really like slubby and neppy denim, adds some great texture
I usually like raws mostly because I find them more versatile with more of my footwear specifically. However, I like a good stonewash if I'm dressing more casual or wearing sneakers.
With washed jeans, I'm not a big fan of super light washes to the point you lose variation in the dye across the jeans. Obviously raws are uniform but will have a more visible fade over time (although I don't like super high contrast fades personally.) At the same time, I'm not a big fan of when jeans have a super uniform light wash from the factory, I find it a bit boring. I think Orslows 2 year wash is a perfect example of "light wash done well."
The exception for me is with raw black dyed jeans. If I'm buying black jeans, I'll always go for stonewash.
And with jeans and jacket, I personally don't like when they match. However, I think where I live, it's slightly more acceptable to do the "Canadian Tuxedo." I don't find it to be a super egregious fashion "no-no" like some do
I don’t think it’s ever a no no to do denim on denim
I do it all the time
Idk why people make such a fuss about denim on denim. They’re like oh wow look at me I’m doing this crazy thing called wearing a denim jacket and jeans
Like just wear it
The taboo around it is trite and played out, kinda like discussing pineapple on pizza. It doesn’t matter
the taboo is more around having the same wash for the jacket/shirt and jeans I thought
I still agree overall, but the reddit advice ™️ is to have mismatched washes to avoid it
Nah it doesn’t matter, like it can look bad if the fit is bad not because it’s inherently the same wash
I agree
I think nobody is rly ragging on mismatched washes is my point
this sequence hurt my brain

I can’t properly express my thoughts ever. I’m the opposite of bishop
just too many two letters with o's
also an over abundance of n's
All washes are good, denim on denim is good, mismatched washes are good, matched washes are good, denim is good if your fit is good
the whole anxiety around denim matching feels very similar to importing the leather matching rules from traditional tailoring into casualwear
like even if your jacket/shirt and pants start out the same colour, its likely that one or the other will get lighter over time bc of different laundry frequencies
What do you mean laundry? I thought you never ever ever wash denim????
you wash denim when its dirty and stinky
Or whenever
/s in case it wasn’t obvious
I half got the sarcasm haha but I wanted to reply in earnest just in case
It’s funny bc (non-raw) denim is one of the few materials I know will leave the wash well
Dark is my most worn pair. The fit isn't the greatest, but the color works so well for me. I'd like to find a really nice pair of mid wash as well.
It took me a long time to figure out that denim on denim really comes down to silhouette. But I feel like that should be obvious with a mono color/fabric fit.
denim on denim looks bad if the denim looks bad, thats the extent as far as I am concerned

i've loved light washes from day 1 but seeing the kind of fades people have on r/rawdenim or whatever is honestly a pretty incredible experience onto itself
i've been pinning for denim for a while now but my story mfg faded to a light wash color and people mistaken it as jeans so it's almost like the (not) jeans i've wanted this entire time
Sun light I like
I bought some very cheap light washes as an experiment this summer and..I like em! Never something I'd really considered before
I donated most of my jeans recently because they were too tight and I miss having light washes
One of my favorite cheapo light wash options are 90s Levi’s 550s
I think I tried on one of their “stay loose” jeans and I heard that they gave them a number
They were pretty comfortable
I went from mostly 511s to the 90s 501s. Those are more roomy by comparison
Since then I’ve gotten more relaxed chinos (classic fit or whatever) and realized that the 501s still aren’t that roomy to me
Yeah I prefer a bit more room
