Discord Screen Share
Hello, built a new HTPC with AMD 7700, 64 g ram, NVIDIA GEFORCE 3060 and I'm LOVING Bazzite. One issue I've run into however is that discord client will not do a screen share... it crashes or shows blank streams. I tried installing an alternative client, Vesktop/Vescord but it wouldn't even open for me. Anyone have any advice on how to get this working, or solid alternatives for streaming?

try the canary discord build
yeah can confirm, Canary discord works for streaming and audio.
Canary seems to be giving me issues. How do you go about installing this build properly?
Just use Vencord's Vesktop
Vencord’s Vesktop?
Vow vill I vo vhat?
Sorry lol
How will I do that?
It's in the software store
Just type in vesktop
Aye aye captain. Will check this afternoon. Thank you
I got video working on Datcord, but not application audio
currently screensharing with audio is only supported on discord canary and vesktop

I have been tinkering constantly trying to get Canary to work, but no joy on Bazzite. When I get it installed, it will only prompt me to update, and only deb and tarz are offered. downloaded Alien to convert, made it into an RPM still doesn't work... trying to do RPMOSTREE install...cant find the install instructions that mention anything about atomic distro on this github you linked... not in readme at least. Do you have a link to Bazzite-specific install instructions? Its odd, b/c regular discord was working just fine, easy install (but Stream doesn't work) yet canary is a totally different story.... thx
its on flathub-beta
literally click the link i sent
follow instructions
flatpaks are universal, they dont care if system is atomic or not
also discord has recently broken screensharing on canary and partially fixed it, then broke it again then fixed it
since canary = alpha pretty much
yeh, when u install flatpak it says "hooray its your lucky day! An update is available, and asks if you want deb or tarz
i have no issues with that
typing this from discord canary right now
bizzare. Yeah, this is also from canary, working fine on my POP_OS
I thought maybe it was a flatseal problem, but doesn't seem to... don't know why its being difficult.
normal discord might have that issue and it gets fixed in less than a day with an update, you can even add a setting somewhere in the userfiles for it (unless they do this automatically now) to tell it to not prompt for those updates
hmm.. OK. Am I correct in that I can't use Deb or Tar on Bazzite? It's my first Fedora-type distro
you can use the deb in a distrobox
for the flatpak to skip update prompts
$HOME/.var/app/com.discordapp.Discord/config/discord/settings.json
similar path for canary
"SKIP_HOST_UPDATE": true,
mmmmk. I'll install and try to let it run what it wants to run, see if that works.
OOH ok great. I'll see if I can get Canary to launch without updating first.
THank you
make sure you run the discord client once first
so the file is made
ok.
and edit the file when discord is not running
running in distrobox or not, this is as far as I can get. It puts TWO 'discord canary' apps on my system for reasons I don't get. One of them seems to do nothing (No process in PS or TOP commands) The second one only prompts update, over and over. Downloading the same dumb file over and over again, tried running in different distroboxes - mint, debian, etc.... tried alien converting to RPM... I tried to use the command you suggested to SKIP_HOST_UPDATE but can't get that far - not found or permission denied. I'm just a bit fried. this is too much work to get a damn stream for my brother online. I'll find an alternative app or distro hop. Thanks for your help though.
Literally I cannot replicate this with the flatpak, clear the flatpak data for the canary flatpak in ~/.var/app and try again then
