Voron V0 control board support question
Hi there,
I’m exploring RatOS to get a taste of the Rat Rig life and plan to use it on my V0.2. However, I noticed something in the RatOS wiki that I wanted to clarify.
Under the section for the V0, the list of supported boards seems more limited compared to the complete list of supported boards for RatOS overall. Is this intentional, with support for the V0 being more restricted due to specific configurations, or is the wiki just not fully updated?
I’m currently using a Manta M4P control board and want to ensure I get the best experience possible. If it’s necessary to switch to a different board for optimal compatibility, I’m open to upgrading—just wanted to confirm if that’s the best route.
Additionally, if purchasing a new board is recommended, could you advise on which control board is most commonly used within the Rat Rig community?
Thanks for your guidance!

The docs are for 2.0 which is rather old. All boards currently work for the V0 in 2.1 and there's a lot more of them than listed in the 2.0 docs. We're close to 50.
M4P is supported
Both v1 and v2
I recommend the CM4 instead of a CB1 however
Check out the 2.1 release notes here: https://github.com/Rat-OS/RatOS/releases/tag/v2.1.0-RC2

yeah, I have realized this in my Voron build as well... the CB1 seemed like a slick solution, but just has some weird quirks that I probably would have avoided if I knew at the time
the question is... for me, I have an extra pi4 lying around if I got something like a SKRat for $30 I could use that... otherwise I think a CM4 is more than that to swap into my M4P board
Absolutely you can use the SKRat 🙂
@miklschmidt thanks for the replies!
so if I got the CM4 route, I have a couple things I am hoping to confirm...
From what I am seeing the 2GB memory models are more than enough and going to a 4GB would be overkill?
Trying to understand if I would want to get a board with EMMC memory...
If I am understanding correctly, if I want the ability to use the USB update method with RatOS I will need to get a CM4 with EMMC memory? Is this the preferred method?
If so, is 8GB of EMMC more than enough? Or would it be a good idea to get the 32GB model?
You don't need the EMMC memory
are you just saying it isn't required in general? or that I don't need to in order to be able to use the simple USB update tool? Or maybe I am asking the wrong question? Apologies as Rat OS is completly foreign to me still and I am just trying to fully understand the trade offs.
Essentially I want to set myself up for the "red carpet" experience when installing, using, updating and managing Rat OS. And is that means a slightly more expensive CM4 variation, it is probably worth it to me
You don't need it at all. I did the work for the CB1 and it is the same way. If you get one without EMMC memory then you just use the SD card slot as normal for Rat-OS install
ok, thank you
Also you need at least 16gb. I recommend getting one without EMMC, it's easier.
Unless you're like me where it is actually cheaper to get it with EMMC memory because that's all that's in stock on non-scalper sites
That's still a thing in 2024?
hasn't been a thing here for years.
Yup. Pi-shop still is out of stock on many of the. m4 models. And it was still cheaper than choosing Amazon
Wow, wonder for what reason. Plenty of stock in EU.
60 moneyunits for a 2gb wifi + 32gb EMMC. 43 for one with no EMMC (that's all including 25% VAT)
they even run discounts on some of the 8gb models
Yeah IDK. I literally bought one today which is why I know
215 pieces of 2gb lites with wifi at berrybase.de alone lol
it might be because the CM5 is dropping any minute now
yeah the CM4's are discontinued
That explains it
Ohh, they should be on sale then...
Are the CM5's going to be backwards compatible?
yes. only they require bookworm 😄
