Coats and jackets over western and flannel shirts
What coats and jackets options do you like to go for over either western or flannel shirts?
I feel like trucker jackets are a simple classic over either.
I know Derek Guy rates tweed sports coats over western shirts.
What about longer coats? I think flannels can work with a casual coat.

cropped leather jackets (think vintage motorcycle jackets) would work as well.
denim blazer/denim jackets work well with both in my experience
depending on the type of western shirt (simple pearly snap probably) you could feasibly wear it under any jacket, short or long

OK so getting the feeling there is not much in terms of trench/wool coat options?
i imagine wool (or a long shearling) would pair well though i haven't seen many fits to that effect
You could totally wear a top coat or a balmacaan style wool coat. Olive green field jacket? The world is your oyster tbh
Vintage Woolrich Mackinaw coats would work as well and are plentiful on ebay

I think you can treat a western shirt pretty similarly to an ocbd or denim button down in most circumstances, and they look cool in non western fits too. So go for a big coat over the top
OK so balmacans are looking great.
I think my coats are mostly a bit smart so maybe that's a gap in the closet for something like a balmacaan
