Pant rise discussion
I’ll make this short but have a question regarding pant rise as it’s surprising to my gf that I can’t just “feel” where a pair of pants is suppose to sit.
It makes sense to me that regardless of rise, manufacturers would want rear/side pockets to sit in relatively the same position for ease of use. This would mean that the “rise” would be in added material above the pockets, no? And then the rest of the plant shape would help the pants naturally sit where they’re intended.
Basically, I haven’t found a single pair of pants that naturally sits at my actual waist or slightly below my belly button. I can pull them up of course but they don’t stay there regardless of a belt (unless I crank it down uncomfortably tight). I do, honestly, find this quite uncomfortable but I also don’t know if I’ve tried/bought true higher rise pants so I’m not sure if that’s even a fair comfort-check.
Thoughts/feedback?

There isn't one answer, if your pants are high rise they generally sit higher (but not always) and if they're low rise they usually sit lower (but not always).
IME pocket location and rise aren't related. I just eye check but you can also look for a rise measurement.
There are multiple reasons why pants aren't fitting your waist the way you want - it could be rise, it could be you need pleats, it could be lots of things
If your pants have a lower rise, theyre not meant to be worn as high as you're describing, so yeah no amount of belting will help
Surely the measurement can’t be the best-all-end-all?
Does it at least make sense that higher rise pants should naturally sit higher? Put another way - pants should be most comfortable when worn in the intended position? I know this is probably the easiest question in the world honestly, but I dunno I feel like I can’t just “tell” where a pair of pants is supposed to sit sometimes Forgive my naivety but pleats help pants stay up…how?

Rise measurement is handy for online purchasing to give you an idea, but like I said, I just give it a mirror check.
Sometimes pants look bad, other times they look good. Everyone's body is different so unless you wanna try to get super granular (not worth it), it's vibes.
i personally always style w the intent of making the pant shoe interaction to look good. if that means sagging or hiking stuff up or whatever then that’s what i do and make work w the rest of the fit
pleats let pants have fuller seats and smaller waistbands.
and yes, pants usually fit best at their intended rise
for like 90% of pants, you can check where the crotch seam lands relative to your body and thatll tell you if they're too low or high.
I find that many higher rise pants don’t want to sit in place naturally now that I have a bit more of a tummy. I just kinda pull them up often, nbd
I love my high rise pants but IBS does not. Technically they and most pants would be better held up with suspenders but I just cope with a braided belt.
