Can't drag from Content Browser - Dash 1.8.2
There is no way to drag any asset from the Content Browser when UE interface is across multiple monitors. All other tools work.
If UE is on a single monitor the Content Browser works.
Content browser won't even open if I switch between different layout.

Hey @angel777
Sorry about this, we have been checking this back and forth today, and neither me or @Costantino - CTO are able to reproduce your can't drag in assets when you have UE interface across multiple screens. But we ofc don't have the same screen setup as you have, so hard to check exactly. But curious, what do you mean by "UE main window"? I would consider the viewport the main window, but maybe that ain't the case. If you can shed some more light on this I might be able to reproduce
Regarding the Load Layout button, this I was able to reproduce though, and my conclusions was like this:
If I have Dash CB open when doing Load Layout, I can't open it again.
If DashCB was not open when I do load layout, I can open it, but get the access denied icon when trying to drag in assets
So perhaps your first issue is also related to the Load layout problem in realityπ€
After I load in a new layout and then restart UE, all works fine though, if that works like a temporary solution for you?
Hi! π
This is my 4k monitor and...
this is my 5k monitor
awesome thanks, will try the exact same thing, but on my two screens
UE 5.4? Or what version btw?
UE 5.4
I confirm that Dash CB doesn't open if I do not close it before switching layout...
The 4K monitor is number 1
The 5K monitor is number 2
Anyway if I start UE with dual monitor setup i can't drag any asset from the CB (even if i switch to single monitor layout. I have to start in single monitor layout to make it work)
If I start in dual monitor layout then I switch to single monitor layout and THEN I open Dash bar the Dash CB works.
No way to make it work in dual monitor layout.
I have 4 monitors on my system. UE is across only 1 and 2.
hmm, when you say dual monitor layout and single layout, I guess you mean UE layouts here right?
You always have both your screens physically plugged in and used in Windows terms?
exactly. UE layout.
All screens are always physically plugged in.
Got it, thanks a ton for this info, will continue my reproduce tries. So far even if I copy your setup as good I can, I only get problems, once I actually load a new layout in UE
Thanks a lot.
At the moment only this works:
UE single layout, I can drag Dash windows on any screen and it works.
I take it you start your project with your dual setup? Tried to find how to do it, but no luck.. (No UE expert here..) Can you let me know how you change the default start layout?
Important update, I've switched the windows and this works.
Monitor 5k:
monitor 4K
For me the default start layout is just the one I've left when I close UE
Oh, interesting, which one of your screens are your "main" one in Windows settings?
the 4k monitor, the number 1 (you can see it in windows positions configuration screenshot)
Got it, number does not have to be main actually, so that's why I needed to ask π
oh ok π You are right π
You know what, I managed to reproduce it with that info!
So conclusion (for you @Costantino - CTO )
1. If I use the Load Layout button, it creates problems regardless
2. If I have the setup that is shown above with UE panel/windows split between monitors and the viewport 1 is NOT on main monitor, I get the access denied icon when trying to drag in assets from the CB
Thanks a ton @angel777 π
Exactly π
I add this:
In the working setup (conclusion 2) the Dash Bar can't stay on top. As I click on the Viewport window it goes behind it.
and... everytime I try to put again on top clicking on the Dash Icon the bar loose last position (it goes across monitor 1 and 3)
this might be related to what setting you have chosen here, but yee probably related to the major problem here
I'll try to take a look in those settings and I'll let you know π
Anyway the interface is scale 100%
Perfect thanks!
probably it is just having a problem finding the center position
My bad...please dont' beat me π
Monitor 2 (5K) is the main...so I assume UE need to start there to make Dash CB work!
π
Pretty sure it was the opposite for me
But oh well, hopefully Costantino will be able to investigate based on this anyhowπ€
Ok man, I think I have hit the nail on the head: Dash CB has problems only when the viewport is detached from the main UE window π Nothing related to main monitor or anything else.
Now, if I drag dash bar or dash tools window on another monitor the only problem I may encounter is that, if dash stuff is on that monitor, if I click on a UE window the Dash stuff goes in background but all works perfectly when it is on top.
this was the monitor where are dragged UE windows interfaces. The main (with the viewport) is on another one. There all is ok and stays on top π
Update: I've tried, with the working configuration (1st UE viewport attached to the main UE window), to open a 2nd UE viewport. Result: still come back the same problem (can't drag asset from Dash CB).
The problem is not related to switching between layouts but it just happens if any viewport is detached from the main UE interface(if I close the second detached UE viewport the Dash CB works again as expected)
For me that's not a big problem, just alert other users to:
1. do not switch layout with Dash CB open (otherwise won't open again)
2. not have any UE detached viewport when using Dash (can't drag anything from the CB).
That's all π
Hey guys, thanks for all those back and forth you had.
I think I know what happens when layout changes or viewports are detached.
We use the viewport as "hook" for all the dash panels and interactions, and probably unreal deletes some references when those things change, making our hook attach to something doesn't exist anymore..
Will look into it today
