Can we discuss the value proposition of Luxire and alternatives?

I have ordered from Luxire before (trousers only) and had good experienes so far. However, for named mill fabrics, eg. Minnis flannel, the prices seem to be very high. What do we think of Luxire's value in this regard? How about alternatives?

I am Canadian by the way. I have purchased from Divij as well and Luxire's prices are pushing me towards them again. I have not used spier and mackay yet but with the Minnis example, their prices are a lot better. Is S&M less accommodating with respect to fit even with their custom program? this is what I have heard another thing is I prefer a roomier cut, trousers with socks not showing, and high waist

I’m not super familiar with luxire specifically but the named/higher end mills are always going to be like that. I have a Minnis flannel suit from Hall Madden and it cost a pretty penny. It’s awesome tho https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1216805941572272278

It seems like you've ordered from Luxire in the past -- is this also including the duties that products shipped from India will get hit with?
Re: Luxire vs. S&M, for me yes as I prefer my front rise to be around 13.5" on a ~33" waist which would require a lot of finangling outside of the companies like Luxire/Collaro and the like

very cool. where do you wear it? ya they get hit with some serious duties coming into canada. I've heard of collaro but never ordered. any noteworthy difference between collaro and luxire? I assume duty will be about the same coming from them as from luxire I wish all these site woudl just list EVERYTHING about the fabric. it's important to me. luxire does a mostly good job but not perfect I want to know weight, mill (even if unpopular) or at least where the mill is sometimes there is no weight. like k I'm already shopping online and cant feel but now I don't even know how heavy it is

Mostly on date nights with my wife and stuff. I get a lot of wear around the holidays too. It’s a very heavy fabric so just a winter suit really I’ve also separated it for various fits. You can search them in #waywt I think MTM like Luxire isn’t super worth it unless you want something very specific or truly can’t find stuff that fits you off the rack + tailoring

if I want a fully canvassed suit it's not gonna be much less off the rack than mtm dont you think?

There’s a lot of suiting and tailoring options used on eBay, thrift shops etc. much better to go that route and have a good tailor than spend $2k

nevermind the fact that fully canvassed off the rack is nto common I started with ebay and had some ok experiences but some not so great as well

I mostly think the customization options via MTM are a great way to shoot yourself in the foot. And it ends up being expensive and very difficult to resell a custom item

and I kinda can't be bothered... being able to get exactly what I want and have it fit well with no issues is worth the money for me. I have gotten some really nice stuff on ebay though lol. brioni suits, loro piana cahsmere scarves.. for like hundreds no signs of wear, scarf was still in the plastic I see where youre coming frmo but I don't think I'd make those mistakes. I don't go crazy with customization at all

I’ve still needed alterations on my MTM suits tbh

And as your body changes you’ll need the pants let out/taken in Any MTM company guaranteeing a perfect fit is lying

If it’s worth it to you then def go for it. I tend to warn against it bc the marketing is v convincing. I still recommend having a good local tailor no matter what

could you tell me the places you've had MTM done? maybe a really rough ranking included? 🙂

I’ve gone with Spier and Hall Madden mainly. HM much better than Spier (they also cost more). Both do decent enough work. The main things to know are whether you like the base pattern or not. The differences between various MTM places in the same price bracket (excluding indochino. Absolutely never go there) are on the edges. They all do similar work so it’s about fabric selection and other things like whether they have a shop near you (getting fitted in person is way easier and far less risky ime) I have a post on Reddit I think with a bit more detail

ya most of htese places will try to do what you ask for tbut the "base pattern" as you say is something a bit modern suits a bit tight and short jacket short pants

I liked hall madden but like most places, it depends on who you work with and how they can achieve your vision I like my hall madden suits but a sales person who gets more of my aesthetic might have been a tad bit better

I've ordered multiple times from Singapore based companies, and I only ever get charged HST (Ontario). So I haven't bought anything form Luxire in a while

Yeossal/Collaro in the past... perhaps another one but might've been a one off. those 2 the most

Duties can just be luck too though. There’s duty, and there’s tax, and the threshold here is very low for both; just because you haven’t been buried by duties yet doesn’t mean you won’t.

yea... i've gotten lucky with duties in the past but can't really count on it. more often than not I end up paying them
