Fashion inspiration books?
I've been thinking of how I could collect some inspiration for my fashion style and one way I was thinking of was flicking through some magazine picture books. Is there any that could be useful here?

Mostly older scans from Japanese fashion magazines : https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/mobile/folders/0B0jc0NJQ4qefcXdpS3hoNjlySjg?resourcekey=0-2ZsYev2oUDgKMs06qHr6uQ
Look for scans of these among others like here http://jmagazinescans.livejournal.com/ or on zazhimi
- fruits & fresh fruits
- basically every major designer has at least one book and tons of look books
- take Ivy
- black Ivy
- 2nd magazine/new preppy lookbook
- Popeye magazine
- fruits magazine
- fudge magazine
- go out magazine
- the rake magazine
- nylon magazine
- Brutus magazine
- Harper’s bazaar, vogue and their international counterparts (france, Italy, uk, Japan)
- scans of 70s-90s us pop culture magazines should be full of dudes in prl and leather jackets
- punk, punk lives, maximum rock & roll, propaganda (all magazines)
- red carpet compilations
- phaidon’s the men’s fashion book
- Japanese avant garde designers
- how directors dress (and probably tons of other movie/film/cinema fashion books)

jmagazinescans - the new blog in LiveJournal. There should be new interesting records soon.
L'ettiquette is another good one to check out, but @ᵏʸⁿ recommended most of what I was going to say and it's a good, diverse list
Popeye is my favorite
But if there is a particular designer I am interested in, I really love getting a book that takes a deep dive into their design process, inspirations, prior collections, etc - I have a lemaire book that I look through very often
Avant another magazine to look out for
They have some editions on westernwear and Americana
Yeah I’m with rawbert-oh on this one, i want to start getting some more of the rick, yohji, cdg, lemaire, dries and j-fashion books
if you have a new york city public library account they have decades of vintage gq magazines on file; the ads would be the more valuable source of inspo for me imo
there's a fair bit here so i want to condense it to start off with
what would be the 3 best for the style I'm aiming for atm, which is RL style/western?
I think chopper linked to this above
I'll also provide some context for my situation;
I'm studying game design at an art school, and the same art school has a fashion degree.
so I've only had a quick look but they have fashion magazines in the library

That isn't meant to replace any of the resources above
Just some stuff from Instagram that will offer lower effort engagement
Just search and determine which of these will be useful to you
For Westernwear stuff. The store in London is cool if you are ever in the area

it's no guarantee you'll find either in your library but ralph lauren: 50 years is a good one for inspo images with less fluff for his brand
Seconded! Great guy, great store, great vibes!
here's a full copy of the 60s classic Take Ivy : https://issuu.com/fiyero109/docs/takeivy
I'll take a look when I'm next in London
I'm looking at the last account and I'm getting inspo already :linkOMG:

It's a lot to look though so I'll start going through it tonight
just like...pace yourself
this is an instance where you'll get more benefit with more time, even if you aren't immediately changing how you dress
Ok :linkBow:
I'm not sure if its the same magazine but an older version, but they do have this RL book
yes that's the one
I had a look today but I couldn't find it :linkCoolCry:
So I've reserved it online, it should take a few days
Yeah
So just checking each magazine out individually and see what aligns with my style? 🤔
yes
Ok
I've returned home so now I can get started with this :linkYeah:
i'm looking @ Popeye atm :linkCool:
Damn, this is a great thread for inspo
np
Getting some good pics already :linkCool:
:thonk:
What can I do while I'm looking though these magazines? I've saved a couple to my fashion inspiration folder and I've tried to replicate one outfit I saw.
What else could I do here?
sit back and reflect on what you like or dislike
read some of the threads in #brands or #fashion-discussion
something that does not have anything to do with clothes, fashion or style that sparks joy in you
this will take time, and while your enthusiasm is admirable, it is not a replacement for time
thanks 👍
TIL I can access Popeye through my uni :linkSmug:
🤔 I assume Japanese magazines, like manga, are back to front?
i would assume yes, lol
i keep coming back to this post :linkBow:
