Not sure what i'm doing, New to minecraft modding. Need help
I watched a few youtube videos on how to install distant horizons and they all show them generating the chunks and then magically the can see for miles upon miles, So i was excited to get this onto a modpack i've been playing and put it to use. Now i've pre generated the chunks and have it installed but i'm not seeing any of the generated chunks. Did i do something wrong ? I'm not sure what to do and need help. I'm very confused because i see people start a new world, They dont see anything.. like maybe 6 chunks far and then they type the / commands to generate the chunks then they go into DH settings and turn on the render to true. voila they can see for miles upon miles. But when i do that I get nothin. I am lost and i would greatly appreciate some help ❤️ I am using game version 1.20.1 Prominence 2. fabric ver 3.0.6 modpack and DH ver 2.1.2 for 1.20.1 fabric. I am hosting a server and have pre generated 500k chunks but i'm not seeing them. Used Chunk-Pregenerator mod. If you guys need any more info i'll give you whatever just not sure what else i need to give

Using chunky to pregenerate for DH doesn't work on a server
You can pregenerate on singleplayer (without chunky) and then move the LODs to the multiplayer folder
Okay i'll try to move the LODs to the multiplayer folder from single
Thank you
Also my port just closed for some reason.. is there a way to get it to open up again ?
What do you mean? Why do you need to open a port?
I have been hosting a server
Suddenly the port is closed now and the server can no longer be started
getting error failed to bind to port
checked it and it's closed
A port usually doesn't just close on its own, and a server should still start up if the port is closed. That's all I can tell you
/server
Distant Generation doesn't work in multiplayer, meaning DH won't be able to generate LODs for chunks outside the vanilla render distance.
Instead, as you travel around the world, LODs will be generated for areas you've visited.
In the next update, DH 2.3, you will be able to add DH to your server granted it's running a compatible mod/plugin loader (Fabric, (Neo)Forge, Bukkit and their derivatives). This will allow the server to generate LODs and send them to the client, making distant generation possible on multiplayer.
If you wish to try 2.3 early, read everything in this thread: https://discord.com/channels/881614130614767666/1285883332768563284
Keep in mind that this build is still experimental, we do not encourage using it on large servers until further testing.
/slowgen
World generation in general is quite slow, if you want to speed it up:
Install Noisium and Faster Random, these mods can improve generation speed by a couple percent.
Make sure to remove the C2ME mod as it significantly slows down DH chunk generation by up to 35%.
Increase
CPU Load
in Distant Horizons settings for faster generation, but you will experience more lag spikes and stuttering due to heavier workload on CPU.
To see if Distant Generator
is really working or not:
1) Check CPU usage while in-game, using Aggressive
settings of CPU Load
. If CPU usage's hovering around 80-100%, the LoDs are generating in the background.
2) Go to DH settings > Advanced Options > Debug > Wireframe
, set Enable Debug Wireframe Rendering
and Show World Gen Queue
to True
.
Enabling both settings will show you the visualization of world gen tasks queued and working on the map (blue boxes for queued tasks, red boxes for working tasks)/chunky
Chunky is known to cause LODs to turn into swiss cheese and bloat up world size, as can be seen in the attached screenshot.
We recommend you enable "Distant Generation" in Distant Horizons' settings and wait.
If you actually want to pre-generate vanilla chunks along with LOD data, disable Distant Horizons, wait for chunky to finish, then re-enable Distant Horizons.
