More Than a Pair of Shoes, Pants, Etc. - Topic of the day 9/26/24

Levi's makes jeans, Nike makes sneakers, Uniqlo makes plain t-shirts: we know all this. What are some lesser known offerings from standard brands (e.x. Levi's boots)? To what degree do these compare to their better-known counterparts?

from my canon: - Hender Scheme makes other neat leather goods, not just shoes (the housewares in particular are often cool) - Mission Workshop makes clothes, not just bags (only the MIUSA ones are good)

My general rule of thumb is to avoid shoes by clothing companies and clothes by shoe companies.

Rick Owens neatly sidesteps that because it is a lifestyle company that makes shoes and clothes

Comme makes the best polyester pants, which isn’t really a category that anyone looks out for, but I don’t care I have 4 pairs and they are all fantastic

Brain Dead housewares are some of my favorite stuff they make. I love the brand but most of the clothes are a bit loud for my day to day style personally.

out of the way example but zara's home goods (particularly furniture) are all decent quality, albeit expensive honestly nike acg clothes are perfectly serviceable for dayhikes, the windshirts and vests in particular. you're not gonna win any ultralight contests, nor does it hold up as well to extended backcountry but it's a step above 'shitty polyester shirt' imo

Any brand can get me with the “home goods” tab or strange stuff if you scroll far enough down on accessories

2nd this I love Nike ACG stuff. This wind shirt is dwr, has velcro closures, and zip off sleeves and I’ve taken it on a bunch of camping trips. The pants are also Nike ACG and they’ve seen their fair share of boulders. Y2K Nike ACG is goated for me.
