pi doesn’t turn on with gpio pins

Just finished assembling my v-core 4 and the pi when powered by the board doesn’t stay on. I tried testing the pins on the octopus and they don’t get readings on none of them. Anyone has a clue on what I might be doing wrong?

use a multimeter, and check the octopus for 5v on the pinout

I’ve tried, it returns with a 0

elpoepel3mo ago
check J39 for 5v pls

on the board there is your power in, is it 24v?
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Yep I checked also the j74 pins that are rated on 5v but nothing comes up even there

This cable is the only one that doesn’t return 24v
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
this is okay, are you sure the 5v jumper is removed? there is a cable over it, cant see it 😄
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
If you mean the one for the power via usb-c yes
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
are u able to flash the board local? to make sure the board is okay can you check both fuse?
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
I’ll try to flash it, then I’ll check the fuse

Catching up, are you saying the Octopus isn't putting out 5V where it should be?
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Yep
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
Even at the header with nothing connected?
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
I’ve tried with everything connected, now I’ll try with nothing
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
perfect. Can narrow down which board is causing the issue Also, double up your wires. The individual pins can't carry enough current for the pi
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
What do you mean with double up the pins Now I was trying to flash again the board and it gives me this error
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago

anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
And it does’t manage to flash again automatically
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
At that header, there are two 5V pins and two GND pins. Same on the raspi. Use all 4 Separate issue, but you'll want to update ratos then run that flashing again. Issue with truncating the version number that was fixed in the past few weeks
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
At the moment I don’t have two other jumper wires…
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
but he checkt with a multimeter, there is no 5v comming from the board
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
How is your pi powered so that you had that flashing window open?
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Usb-c now
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
ah Well if 5V isn't coming from the Octopus, thats the problem 😄
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
I disconnected everything to check if the problem was something with the pi
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
I don't think there is a way to disable that on the Octopus but it isn't something I've looked into.
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
if there is no 5v from the octopus pin, there is something wrong in the board fuse are good?
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
At this point I'd power the pi through a dedicated power supply and move on (if you have a 5V 3A supply handy)
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Checked with ohmeter, they should be good I meant the fuse Will it be enough for everything?
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
yes
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
I do have it, but this sucks 😔
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
try it over usb, and get the board running. it may damaged.
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Do I have any chance in a warranty claim or you think it’s not worth it?
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
it was in the kit? so they have to replace it
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Yep it was The strange thing is that none of the pins have voltage, not even the ones near the fans
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
yes this is rly strange. but im not sure if this is working without a firmware on it ah it has klipper on it...
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Yeah it should have flashed ratos
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
you're not seeing voltage going to fans that are running?
archen
archen3mo ago
Can you take a better picture closer to the the octopus board?
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
I’ll turn on the board and check now
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
If you don't see voltage on things that are clearly working, then there's something wrong with how you're checking voltage :/
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
At the momen’t I haven’t even turned on the printer really, so not sure if the fans are working😂
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
ah, okay

elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
can you flash it again? you can add the mcu to the printer.cfg , are you familiar with it?
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
I'd follow the configurator, and not mess with the printer.cfg until you're trying custom stuff
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
So I should flash it again?
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
yes
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
May be it has something to do with this error?
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
the mcu is not costum stuff, if the configurator fails you have no other choice
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
To flash it I need also to put the jumper for power via usb? I’m quite familiar with programming but not with klipper Btw it’s already the third time I’m flashing it
archen
archen3mo ago
Update ratos and then flash
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
After a few tries reflashing the board I still get this message… anyone has any clue? Should I open a new thread?
No description
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Btw I confirmed that the fans powered by the board do work, and pwm on the tool head board also works So the flashing should be right
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
In your pi do ls /dev/serial/by-id/* Is there something in return?
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
What is the default password to ssh?
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
root User is pi pw is raspberry, maybee ratos has another one
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Can’t figure out the password for ratos, any suggestions?
archen
archen3mo ago
User: pi Pw: raspberry as @elpoepel said
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Beacon_Beacon_RevH_937EF6A15154364134202020FF140416-if00 /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Klipper_stm32f446xx_btt-octopus-11-if00 /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Klipper_stm32g0b1xx_btt-ebb42-12-t0-if00 This is what it returns
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
Try putting this in your printer.cfg
[mcu] serial: /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Klipper_stm32f446xx_btt-octopus-11-if00
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
It started working for a second Then I started plugging in motors and fans and it suddently lost connection with mcu The difference that I noticed is in the presence of one led
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
unplug that stuff, make sure it is still working. Then if it is, start plugging stuff in one at a time to see which one is messing it up If that doesn't narrow it down, make sure to power the pi well. You may need to double up on pwr and gnd pins
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
I’m powering the pi via usb-c at the moment, for the previous problem 😅 I also tried using another motherboard, same problem
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
that probably can't supply enough. Fix your power problem otherwise all else is moot
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Reinstalled all firmware, also pi
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
You lost Power to pi or Octopus?
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Octopus
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
wait what?
archen
archen3mo ago
Do yourself a favor and fix the power to pi before you do anything else
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
Do not add stuff of the Board is running.
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
I didn’t lose power completely, it disconnected from pi
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
Plug it back in the pi, and restart over the interface
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Did it but it still doesn’t work, I’ll try to plug it in a different socket
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
And Power down the Octopus
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
It was the fucking endstop The only thing I had always plugged in… What could it be? Is it shorted or something?
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
pinout could be wrong
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
I used everything as given stock It’s a kit cable, i didn’t even have to crimp it
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
I think I've heard of them coming wrong, but can't find an example offhand.
archen
archen3mo ago
Double check the pins even if they are pre-crimped Wiring endstop wrong can destroy your board I had one of my end stops wired wrong. Had to switch +_
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
Grab one of the other endstops that works, check the pinout (with a multimeter if you have to) and make it match Don't rely on wire color
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
I think the endstop with White wire are wrong, but cant find it
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
There is the info @anddelbel
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
By checking which an ohmeter I found out it is shorted Or is it normal that it beeps between the two pins without the arrow?
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
There will be three contacts. A common, a normally open (NO) and a normally closed (NC). Pressing the switch should change the NO and NC continuities to the opposite If it doesn't change no matter the button press, then it is shorted
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Ok, when pressed it’s fine, so i have to switch the cables… Do I have to cut them or is it possible to get them out? Thank you very much guys btw
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
you can get them out but its tricky Depending on the available equipment, you can try depinning and re-inserting, or cut/swap/solder/heatshrink
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
White ones or red ones?
No description
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
oh man, I've never used those but they look nice!
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Everything but soldering or replacing the heads
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
the smallest that fits
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Found them cheap on Amazon I’ll try later this evening or tomorrow and let you know how it went, thanks again
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
Good luck! And great job troubleshooting it down to the endstop
elpoepel
elpoepel3mo ago
You dont have to cut any wire or solder it. You can switch the wire on the Connector itself. Or im wrong? Yeah depinning is the right Option. Overread sorry 🙂
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
Its just tricky unless you've got a good pin/scalpel kinda thing
archen
archen3mo ago
Just insert a thin scalpel and bend the plastic locking pin and pull out the cable. Many tries to bend the metal part on the crimp but it's much easier to bend the plastic in the connector
anddelbel
anddelbelOP3mo ago
Managed to do it, almost everything works fine now, thanks to everyone!!
TheTik
TheTik3mo ago
woohoo! Happy printing
