Dark LODs even without starlight or related mods.
This is with th server-side fork but I don't believe that's the problem. No matter what I do I can't seem to get the LODs to all be normally colored. What should I do?

Update to the latest version of dh then see if the issue persists
Unfortunately I can't because I am on 1.20.1 and I need compatibility with iris 1.7.2
Oh that is an issue then
yeah :/
I could send my modlist
idk if its a problem with the server side mods or the client side mods though
Yea well might as well have a look at the client side first
yea, well the LOD generation is happenig on the server side
but alright
I don't think it has anything to do with the generation just the appearance rather
top part has my modlist
WOW that is a lot of mods try a binary search
/binarysearch
Try a binary search and figure out which mod is causing it.
So disable half of the mods, see if issue is still there, if yes disable half again etc etc until you find the mod that's causing the issue.
yeah
fabric splits it up into like 300 smth, its only really 129 but that's still a lot
only?
I really don't feel like its any of the mods on my client
yea its still a lot
Yea lol fabric counts all the individual mods that live inside of the main ones
I have 300 (excluding libraries)
that's crazy
these are the mods on the server side, where the actual LOD generation is happening
um
I won’t question if it works
it probably does but uh
ok
yep, it launches for sure
and what's weird is
this problem didn't exist before I regenerated all the chunks
Yea I reckon just do a binary search then if it isn't a client side problem then I will start looking through the server side mods
aye
idk I guess I'll do that if it comesdown to it
that is weird
it really is
I had to regenerate because the first time I used chunky and that lead to there being massive holes in the generation
is the ambient occlusion messed up
Does the same thing happen if you regen the chunks again?
I’m taking a wild guess while saying this
unfortunately I tried a couple times and got the same results after
How exactly would I look into that?
could be client side
or server side
Sorry I have to go but I will be back later
i've heard of ambient occlusion, but what is it actually?
np
go into the config file for server side
dark shadowy thing around edges
makes things look better
it could just be the version but since you have to stay on it idk
the DH config file?
ye
i don't think there's an option for ambient occlusion there
or is there?
there is
what's it called?
it’s under like advanced settings then graphics then ambient occlusion
let me see
looks like the only thing under advanced then graphics
I’m trying to figure out what to do but I don’t have access to my computer rn
yeah np, I appreciate your help
for the actual gui it’s like that but I’ve never dug into the raw config files
only for stuff like biome replacer etc
right, I can't access the server GUI
man I'm really stumped
maybe you could switch out a config file for one that has ao disabled?
maybe, I guess that could work
I'm gonna try deleting the config file rq
and deleting the LOD data
and just seeing if maybe I changed a setting or something
ok
imma go sleepy sleep now
have a good sleep
thanks
here it is
I don't see it right now, perhaps it was added in a more recent DH version?
Can you send your config file lemme see if aI can find it
nope your too outdated sorry
sad
No ambient occlusion for you my kind sir
it was going SO WELL
THIS WHOLE THING IS FINE
AND THEN THESE FEW
Bruh
ONLY THOSE CHUNKS ARE SHOWING UP LIKE THt
sigh
idek what to do
neither this is an extremely weird issue I haven't seen anything like it before
Deleting starlight doesn't fully solve the issue. Your normal chunks are still tainted under the hood by starlight's format that dh 2.1.2 has difficulty reading
i have the same typ eof issue but with snow
idk whats happening
nvm i fixed it
Yeah, but I deleted all the LODs on the server and client but it still showed up that way.
This was the result of me regenerating them, and I watched them appear dark like that in realtime
You would need to delete vanilla chunks not DH LODs
As every time DH would generate a LOD from a chunk saved when Starlight was present it will be black
OH
You can try going back to DH 2.1.0 if you can't update to 2.2
dang, people have already started building and such
If I put 2.1.0 on the server, would I need to downgrade all the clients’ versions too?
I guess yes
GC luck finding and compiling 2.1.0 server version :/
If you are patient you can also force update all the vanilla chunks without Starlight installed
As now after they are saved again they will have correct vanilla MC format and DH will work
Like by placing a block in them?
Should be enough
Or doing something else to update a block inside of it
Hm…
I wonder if there’d be a way to automate that
You can most likely make some wordedit command that will place a block in every chunks based on some grid pattern
I would advise it to be, e.g. glowstone so that the light update will for sure happen
That’d be way easier than trying to get like a million carpet bots to do it which is what I was thinking of 💀
I’ll try that, thanks for your help
Do you think if I updated DH server side to 2.2.x it’d be backwards compatible with 2.1.3 on the client side?
Probably not but I guess that’s worth a shot too
I don't think it will
Yeah, probably not
As serverside does not have proper stable version there are a lot of changes every update
Yeah. I can’t wait for an official release, looking forward to it.
I think that’ll really be the next level of DH
I knew about DH before iris support when it was bellow 1m downloads, but it exploded after Iris support and YouTube was full of edits (and still is). I think official server side support will be the next explosion of popularity to DH
You haven't lost that much
Pre DH 2.0 is was useless in my opinion
The performance drop was really big back then
It will be soon, but it will still require Iris 1.8 and Sodium 0.6.0.
I hope all mods will update to support this combo
Especially Create and ImmediatelyFast
Yeah. I remember wanting to use shaders with it and using optifabric and the performance was just too bad to handle.
Back when shader support was pretty bad anyways
Yeah I hope so too.
You wanna know the weirdest thing?
They seem to be updating themselves
I am just looking at the LODs and seeing them turn the correct color
not even entering them
or updating
but its happening very slowly
These both run with that combo fine on Forge with the current alphas - did it yesterday.
And I was using older Create F because of addon compat.
Yea that makes sense I am pretty sure that is how it is meant to work
