Holes/Missing chunks failing to render properly (1.21) (DH 2.2.1-a)
I've seen posts of bug reports on this, and was wondering if they're is a fix for it. This started occurring today when I fly or use an elytra, the area in front of me (and sometimes behind) starts to disappear like this and then reappear when i go back. I'm not sure if its the mods i was installing today.
Here is my mod list:

Heres the rest, it isnt much but i'm including it just incase
/overdraw
Hole at the edge of vanilla Render Distance, especially during movement:
This is caused by either vanilla terrain not loading in fast enough, or shader's incorrect overdraw prevention implementation or configuration (if you use one)
Some world gen speed improvement can be found when adding these two mods, but the affect will be minor:
- Noisium
- Faster Random
There is another mod that may help:
C2ME
. However, it can decrease DH generation speed by up to 35%.
The easiest fix is to move slower and/or ignore it. This hole is most visible while moving over not generated (by vanilla) terrain. Moving over that terrain every subsequent time may not create the hole. And moving slower will give MC more time to load the chunks as you go.
If none of that helped, you can also tune the overdraw prevention, look at the third section to know how.
Low quality full blocks behind and around non-full block, e.g. fences or ladders:
This is intended behavior, to prevent holes in the world while you move, DH will overlap with some part of the vanilla terrain.
How much of the terrain is covered is determined by the overdraw prevention:
- 1.0
will mean DH LODs start where vanilla chunks end.
- 0.0
will mean that DH render everywhere starting from your position.
To fix this, you can either:
- Increase your vanilla RD, which will move the DH LODs further from you.
- Tune the Overdraw Prevention setting, see the next section to know how.
Where to edit the overdraw prevention setting?
Overdraw prevention setting can be edited inside the DH config under:
Advanced > Graphics > Advanced Graphics
But if you use shaders, they will override and take control of the overdraw prevention.
In that case, check the shader's settings, if overdraw prevention is not there, contact the shader devs or change the shader you use.First section
I see, i'll check it out in the morning! By any chance do yo know if BSL (these are the shaders im using) has built in overdraw prevention? If not is fine as i'll check later.
Ive got Noisum, but not faster random. Will check that out
Last thing, is there a chance that im experiencing this because of my mods? I downloaded a significant amount of them today, which was then i started experiencing this issue.
I currently have 71 mods, if thats a lot
It happens just with dh and iris for me
Hmmmm i see
I'll try without all my mods though, just to check. Will do that in the morning though, gotta clock out
Enjoy your sleep
Yes, every shader with dh support has that
Maybe if you have a lot of world gen mods, but probably not
Oh i did start to see this after i added tectonic and territh. But those are just two, and i heard they work great with distant horizons.
They work great in the sense that the terrain you get is awesome at high render distances, but they can slow down chunk generation meaning this issue will become more pronounced
I see i see
And generally, if i had a top of the line pc, I wouldn't have these issues, would i?
Well if you would install JJThunder to the Max and a ton of structure mods, you would bring to it's knees even the best of PCs
But yeah with 13900K I can start playing with no pregen using Terralight and Tectonic
And the world loads in around me
What render distnace do you use?
Here are performance mods I use:

And how much would you think Nvidum would help improve performance
plus this issue
vanilla 12, DH 512
512 takes some time but the initial 128 loads very quickly
I see, i've got almost most of them
Not that much as you usually use low vanilla RD with DH
But with no shaders I used NVIDIUM and vanilla RD of 16 - 24
Hmm i see. I seen it was a popular mod, but i couldnt get it to work with the sodium version im using
Not much of a loss then ig
Im hoping my issue is not this though
Unfortunately it seems like my issue has gotten worse
Yeah same
I turned off all my mods and the problems still there
Its weird because when i at first used DH, i never had such a problem occur.
Nothing i do clearly fixes the issue lol
It may be my hardware
No amount of trial and error gave me any improvement and mayeb ive just never noticed since ive been playing in survival till now

No, you can fix it, but that fix will have severe compromises

Changing the overdraw value in dh's settings. (This will only work if you're not using shaders)
