Error messages in chat
Hello, I'm encountering DH errors in my modpack, which are causing frequent lag spikes. Could someone explain what these errors mean and how to resolve them?

It looks like you need to allocate more ram to minecraft especially with the "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError"
I had the same issue earlier
i currently have 8gb of ram allocated, i see online that its usually the max before the garbage colleector starts making things worse
wont adding more ram increase lag?
You can try 12, and should still be fine
It will increase microstutter if you don’t tune the GC
But having too low will plummit the fps
i tried giving it 12gb and im still getting the same errors
i have 32gb total for context
does the problem persist with just DH?
yeah its a dh error
its not a DH error per se
youre just running out of memory
world generation takes a lot of memory. perhaps that is why only DH is running against the memory problem
okay but apart from giving me an error in chat what does this mean
does it stop loading chunks further and its now stopped?
or is it just a warning and itll keep going like normal ence i can just disable error messages to stop being annoyed by it apart from occasional frame drops
im not sure
could you ping someone that might know?
cause if it stops generating chunks its gonna be an urgent issue i gotta fix and if not i can live with it
@James Seibel (GMT-6) i have no idea if james likes to be pinged for stuff like this lol
I’m surprised the game didn’t crash.
Are you using custom JVM args and/or a custom MC launcher?
You can see MC’s memory use in the top right corner of the F3 menu.
im launching the game through modrinth bhut idk what jvm args are
the memory usage when i press f3 though goes from 40% all the way up to 100% and then comes back down to about 40 repeating this over and over
What CPU preset in DH?
If you continue having issues try reducing the CPU load preset.
Not sure why the garbage collector wasn’t keeping up in that one instance. It appears to be working just fine there.
(Maybe Modrinth has some special settings that are causing issues, I don’t know).
Mmh i guess ill leave it on low well see if that makes a difference
I thought balanced would be fine though
Thanks ill come back if the errors happens again
Turn down the lod distance bruh
Nah it is good
I also use 512
1024 is overkill for me though
By the way, I'll ask here since this is related to the errors I get: I'm receiving a 'lower your CPU load' error.
When I play my modpack without Distant Horizons, I experience a CPU load between 20% to 30% after everything is loaded and achieve about 90 FPS.
However, when using Distant Horizons, my performance takes a serious hit, with FPS dropping between 30 to 60 and experiencing significant frame drops. My CPU load spikes to 100% across all 20 cores. Is there a bug causing this?
How can I reduce the CPU load, and why is it impacting performance so drastically?
/config
To edit the config, press the button next to the FOV slider to edit the config.
The config file found in .minecraft/config/DistantHorizons.toml
Main config screen
Well DH needs to e.g. generate the terrain for you to see it.
It can use between 1 and infinite amount of CPU cores/threads/processes
If the CPU load is too high, and you have other mods that may use a lot of CPU or you have some backgroud apps open or your CPU is too weak
The CPU is overloaded as in simple words you are trying to run your CPU at 120%
And it is just impossible
So first some tasks are being worked on, then the other ones and you end up with lag, stutter, crashes, etc.
im putting it on aggresive because i imported a map using mca selector as i explained on another help me post i made
and since that "corrupted" the distant horizons loaded chunks i had to remove all of the dh files and then reinstall distant horizons
and since then even tho chunks are loaded via chunky DH doesnt show them and takes ages to load them
also since then ive been getting a load of these messages
and also idk why but the DH grass texture are stone in some spots and idk why
That looks like command block output
Never seen DH print anything like that
You may want to restart your LODs again
If that won't work, consider your world corrupted
