Nerfing (or disabling) minimaps
Minimap mods on fabric clients are way too OP, to the point of it creating an unfair advantage for those without the mod. Is there a way for me to nerd/disable this realistically?

Yes but no
Some mods respect the server and will disable themselves if you ask nicely
But not all do, and someone can just edit that part out
How am I supposed to ask them nicely? Isnβt it like a βeveryone for themselvesβ situation
I mean the players, Iβve tried IAC before, didnβt work too well
Clients playing on real potatoes, hashing even with MD5 takes forever
You can disable Xaero
I don't know any other ones
^
But this
Think it is xaero
Thatβs fine
This is the screenshot one of the players took
Does a player using minimaps increase the load on the server? As it is (?) asking for more chunks to render?
No
Looks like if I install xaero on the server side, it will share some global parameters
But upon 2nd look that is almost certainly not xaero
I know the main one that gets used around them is the non FairPlay version of xaero
Idk what the screenshot is
Alright Iβll try asking my players nicely about it
Snow has a plugin which allows minimap control iirc?
But probably won't help for a fabric server
So you'd just have to install the mods on the server and use their admin control panels to disable the features you want to
Ah thatβs a pain
Iβve already notified my players that using the non FairPlay versions would now be a punishable offense, and gave them a 10 day grace period to change
I mean an alternative is that you allow everyone access to minimaps in vanilla
Thereβs a plug-in and texture/shader pack which allows for this functionality
No thatβs not the issue, all clients are on fabric as we have a few fabric mods that requires both server and client
Issue is the mod being abused
the packet exists on all versions of the mod. If you install the journeymap mod server-side and just disable radar, then all public versions of journeymap won't have radar
Gotcha
is it possible to dissable xaero on spigot? If so, how?
plugin I made

Server-side control for client-side minimap plugins - funniray/minimap-control
good stuff, is it possible to upload this to aternos?
idk, I don't use aternos
it's on modrinth if that helps
https://modrinth.com/plugin/minimap-control

Minimap Control - Minecraft Plugin
Plugin to control client-side Minimap mods (JourneyMap and Xaero's Minimap)
Aternos, no you will have to request it to be added which it most likely wont be, aternos is bad even for a free service
is there a better free service?
minehut and aternos are the only real competitors
i think there is another one as well cant remember the name rn
very well, thank you
Xaeros minimap on serverside will allow you to restrict it btw
FPS :)
If you promise you read the ToS
But I think we currently don't have server slots
the spigot plugin?
Are you on fabric 1.21 no?
just spigot for now
there is a xaeros spigot plug in but i dont know what it does/how to use it
It better be paper π it seems some already linked you a plugin to limit xaeros minimap and it's compatible to limit journeymap too, that's cool
Probably it is used through editing a config file. It should have docs
Yeah so it has a global config
You can enable or disable whatever you want
problem with aternos is they prevent accessing server directory/config files
radar-allowed: true
For example you can disable radars with this
Ugh aternos moment
they don't allow you to edit config files? Amazing
I don't remember if mcho.st is still around but they're good
thank you, i will check it out
thread hijacked
Anyways, I do appreciate this
