What is causing black chunks? (Conquest Reforged Modpack)
Hello. I removed Starlight from my mods as I heard this was a common issue for black chunks, however after launching the game they're still there. What mod might be causing this to happen?

After deleting starlight, you'll also have to regenerating the LODs.
How do I do that?
You can do that by deleting the LODs.
They're stored under these locations:
/lodstored
Single Player:
- Overworld:
.minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- Nether: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM-1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- End: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- Custom Dimensions: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIMENSION_FOLDER/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
Multiplayer:
- .minecraft/Distant_Horizons_server_data/SERVER_NAME/
I've just deleted the distanthorizons.sqlite file and re-entered my MC world. The same issue seems to persist
Does this issue still appear on a newly created world?
Yes
Update Iris, the version you're using doesn't have DH support
This is the only version I was able to use
When I updated it, I received "incompatible version" error messages upon launch
it suggested to me to use 1.6.11
Can you show what the message exactly says?
Sure give me a moment, I need to update iris to get it again
You'll likely also have to update sodium if you're updating iris
Oh and by the way
I had to get DH 2.0.0
in order for it to work
I downloaded the latest version and thats when I had my first error message
Only DH 2.1+ has shader support
should I do this again with the latest version?
Yes
You need to update Iris
Any version in particular?
The newest would be the best
Update Sodium
This just causes even more errors
Update Indium, Reeses Sodium Options and Sodium Extras
You're not using the latest Indium version
https://modrinth.com/mod/indium/version/1.0.34+mc1.20.1
Now I get this

It seems to work now, except the water changes colors. Not sure if this is from the resource pack?
Created before or after you removed Starlight? According to the FAQ the damage is already done when Starlight was used in the world, and the damage cannot be undone by removing Starlight.
Well apparently that's false, because it was created before removing Starlight and now it works...
However the water is just a different shade of blue
Not sure if that's normal or
James or a moderator may want to update the FAQ if that is no longer true, then.
With newly created world, I meant after removing starlight. The damage can be undone, but only through updating/regenerating the affected LODs.
What shader are you using?
Ok so, this is strange
There are some dark parts, but others load just fine
Looks like beyond a certain range, they're all black again
What LOD quality?
Try high or extreme.
Does this still happen when shaders are disabled?
What shader are you using?
Lower quality ones can generate shadows a bit incorrectly, it seems.
Haven't noticed such a issue before
I'm not using a shader. I tried loading in Bliss and it said shaderpack failed to load. I am using a mod called Conquest Reforged & its Resource pack
I noticed it in my world. Again, I only used DH for a few short days, so. :P
I set it to high, and it looks like this
For bliss you need the In-Dev version
Try with absolutely no mods except for DH?
It seems to work by itself with no other mods, altho I just set the CPU load to "balanced" and it froze my game so I didn't test further.
But it seemed to work
Then keep the CPU load lower, and find the smallest possible combination of mods that causes it to happen.

It is still true
some chunks fix themselfs though
no one knows why and how
Depending on the user the precentage of fixed chunks can range from 0% to 100%
The more mods I remove and add, the more new errors I get. I'm really not sure how to get this modpack working. I know its possible as I've seen some people using Conquest + DH together but idk how to get rid of all the bugs and errors.
I think a /binary seacrh might be faster
Try a binary search and figure out which mod is causing it.
So disable half of the mods, see if issue is still there, if yes disable half again etc etc until you find the mod that's causing the issue.
But this error would suggest Indium or Continuity
(You need indium for DH if you use Sodium <0.6)
The issue with this is that a lot of mods rely on eachother, so when i remove half I will get hit with a boatload of new errors
my sodium is 0.5.11 I think
Yeah, I know this problem...
I would be nice for a launcher to do a binary split for you with correct library spliting, but none has that functionality at the moment...
Wait
I think I fixed it
I think it's working now
These are the mods I removed
No wait
DH isn't working properly
lol forget what I said earlier
gonna try again
Aaaaand there it is again
yeah I got no idea
At least it does not crash
Try a new world
same thing
One of these mods is causing it
Im not sure which though, because afaik they should all be compatible
Loading the mod by itself, it does work, but the distance is quite limited.
i dont see anything weird, but you could try a /binary search to find the culprit

/slowgen
If it feels like LoD generation with
Distant Generator
is too slow:
Install Noisium and Faster Random, these mods optimise world generation code.
Try increasing CPU Load
in Distant Horizons settings for faster generation, but you will experience more lag spikes and stuttering due to heavier workload on CPU.
To see if Distant Generator
is really working or not:
1) Check CPU usage while in-game, using Aggressive
settings of CPU Load
. If CPU usage's hovering around 80-100%, the LoDs are generating in the background.
2) Go to DH settings > Advanced Options > Debug > Wireframe
, set Enable Debug Wireframe Rendering
and Show World Gen Queue
to True
.
Enabling both settings will show you the visualization of world gen tasks queued and working on the map (blue boxes for queued tasks, red boxes for working tasks)try the second part to see if its still working
From my own experience, at least, LOD rendering disables when I select a shader that is incompatible with DH. DH still runs (and generates LODs, I think), but they aren't being rendered. Maybe the same is happening there, although due to a mod, not a shader?
I have no shaders enabled the entire time
The problem with that theory is that some LODs are loading
