Jungle Jacket vs Jungle Shirt
I am considering getting some kind of jungle Jacket or M65 to lean more into some 70s counter culture bullshit.
What I have noticed is that sometimes what seems to be the same garment is either described as a jungle jacket or jungle shirt. What exactly is the difference? Also is the M65 a Jungle jacket or something different?
Also if you know of any good guides on the different varieties of this specific garment lmk

@Digs This seems like your area of expertise?
Also I’d look at what Universal Surplus has on stock, they’re pretty good by European standards.
I will at some point
Had to cancel an order by them today bc they did not manage to ship my stuff for like three weeks and im going on vacation by end of week and i don't think they would have arrived in time even if they did ship
but yeah, the overall plentyfulness of Universal surplus makes me want to get into milsurp more
Feels quite convenient
So an M-65 and jungle jacket are going to be pretty similar in appearance but a jungle jacket is hot weather and an m-65 is cold weather and insulated
If you are looking for light outer layer for warm weather go with a jungle jacket, its thin cotton ripstop vs an M-65 which is not ripstop and is made of a thicker material and intended for moderately cold weather
Jungle jacket will be ripstop material (accept first pattern which is just a sateen) button front and no epaulettes (first pattern does have epaulettes) with a traditional collar
M-65 will be noticeably thicker looking, non ripstop, has epaulettes and a more round collar. Also will be zip front with snap closures

i do have both!
one sec i’ll yap in more detail and grab pic of each
All right, that sounds like a jungle jacket might be the move.
whats ur vibe in question
I do a lot of westernwear stuff but want to lean a lil bit more into like the 70s counterculture shtick
Also im good when it comes to layering in winter
More looking for summer options
ok
so the m56 (the jacket) is a bit padded to start, it’s wind and rainproof which makes them fashionable and functional! and they did come with a liner originally back when
the liner btw
shirt is more comparable to cotton workshirt
personally i think the m56 jacket would pair better with the western wear thing
the jacket is not a fun thing to wear in the hotter weather though
but there’s a reason why so many vets kept their field jackets around after they got back, it’s a good jacket that’s simple to repair
we are long past the era you’ll find them sitting for $2 in milsurp stores though
Not in the eu you will though :keepincool:
