Random changes in boat name
One of Saillogger users is experiencing a very weird problem. The boat name keeps changing randomly, seemingly picking up names from neighboring AIS targets (advertised by a PredictWind DataHub back to N2k from what I understand). The name in "Server -> Settings" is persistent and is right, however when they look at "Data Browser", they see a different name and oddly enough that name keeps changing.
Never seen anything like this before and not having direct access to the Signal K instance, struggling a bit to troubleshoot.
Is this ringing a bell for anyone? Is there any flow where a name can be overriden by a network value?

It can definitely get changed by ais
Self name?
From n2k for sure, not sure about 0183
This is N2k
In which case does it happen?
and relatedly, how can they prevent it?
is thay hi self context in the screenshot?
his
yes, it is self, couldn't fit the screenshot but confirmed
Somehow he his is getting class A static messages with his mmsi. but other boat details
wondering if it has something to do with the datahub
Pretty sure
I can take a look at the n2k data if he gets a log
it may be difficult for him to collect it
thinking of workarounds, if he temporarily changes/removes his MMSI, this should mitigate it, right?
In theory…
Unless there is some strange bug
independent, shouldn't we prevent overrides from AIS for self?
Maybe
Note that I do see my name getting overwritten by n2k ais. Didn’t notice before since it’s the same.
Interesting. I honestly don't think we should allow that. Granted it should not happen but conceptually feels wrong to me.
It is like DHCP is overriding a statically configured IP 😉
Well… we do get location from AIs. And that could be the only gps source.
Location would make sense, but more statically configured things like Name is different IMO
Agreed. The code just does not currently differentiate. In fact, I don’t think that even knows who self is.
Definitely fixable though.
Put it on the list 😉
I have a DataHub connected to NMEA2k and haven't noticed such an issue, at least. My AIS is on 24/7, though just B+.
In this case the problem happened when he turned his local AIS off
Interesting…
Or maybe just more noticeable when the local is off?
He doesn’t have access to the admin console? To get some n2k logs?
