What's inspiring everyone lately?
I feel like posting in #inspiration without a coherent theme in mind can seem daunting, kinda like another form of fitpic, but instead of your fit, it's your taste.
I'm bringing this thread here as a place to expound on anything that's catalyzing your interesting in clothing right now, whether it be a garment you bought, a fit you saw, or anything that is generally activating your fabric fibres.

I just cleaned out my closet and tried on all the winter stuff i have in totes. I do it prior to every seasonal transition, and it's one of my favorite things.
I end up realizing the things I love, the things that no longer matter to me, and get a lot of emotional joy in revisiting the past through my garments.
It's inspired me to mend things and helped refine the view of how I want to present myself with what I have -- more big shirts. More patterned pants. Less conventional knitwear.
Also helped that I had a few "grails" that I'd been mentally stuck on for years that I'd been able to get secondhand and realize were absolute garbage for me for varying reasons. This helped finally clear my head, get these things to someone else, and move off from some remnants of old aesthetics I'd been grasping onto
That sounds like a pretty beautiful process
this is not nearly as eloquent as the post above mine but i’ve recently started watching the original Magnum PI and have found a ton of inspiration in the outfits there. so generally speaking, movies and TV from 80s-90s really inspires me (Twin Peaks, Seinfeld, the Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy, My Own Private Idaho etc)
My thing or my ethos or whatever is getting things secondhand as often as possible. so i try to recreate looks and vibes from that era with thrifted / ebay finds on a small-ish (for me) budget
religious clothes are what make me really inspired these days
Same, Magnum had that shit on fr
Been in a bit of an inspiration depression lately. In that I kind of feel like I lack a vision where to go from here.
Raw hems are calling to me though
Well, what did inspire me recently was love lies bleeding. Kinda in a gender related way bc I ocasionally wish that I was afab so I could dress masc in a gender non-conforming way - just a whole lot of slightly ratty western vibes that kinda vibe with me rn
the fashion in this movie absolutely rocks
given my pivot in the last year towards wide denim and big shirts i kinda wanna channel that energy into tailoring too and this fit from a recent margiela collection caught my eye
Ethan Wong (The Teenage Gentleman) just wrote a blog post about his process of inspiration, basically an answer to your question: https://alittlebitofrest.com/2024/08/12/how-inspiration-gets-me-to-make-outfits/
