2024 J. Crew Fall Lookbook inspo
There are a couple of garments and outfits that I’m drawn to. I’d rather not pay full price retail and I’d definitely rather not buy new. I was wondering if there are specific ways to search for the garments via eBay and brands other than J. Crew that would be comparable. RL for instance?
If I search the terms listed for the cardigan and sweater respectively, will I yield positive results? Is there a second hand price range I should be considering? I’d love to keep it under $100.
I like the three fits included and I’d like to experiment with a wider trouser though I don’t feel comfortable with the giant (yet). I can search for J Crew classic trousers and I’m wondering what the equivalent from other brands would be. I don’t think I’m ready for Ralph Lauren Andrew chinos.

searching by product name and specifically not limiting yourself by brand will yield the best results imo
brands like ralph lauren or ll bean or abercrombie will likely have something comparable but you're likely to get a deal from a random no-name brand product with the same fabrication
if you're looking for an analog for j.crew classic chinos, ralph lauren philip pants are an option, but again, you'll get more options by not being a brand purist
Used J.Crew is generally a good value on eBay, plus there's lots of inventory as well.
For trousers, do you have a current pair in a classic cut that you like? If so, can measure those and compare against garment dimensions in the eBay listings.
For the cardigan, you could do the following search:
cardigan (fuzzy, brushed, shaggy)
That will give you listings that are cardigans with at least one of the three attributes.
And for the sweater, just search the following:
(fuzzy, brushed, shaggy)
And then narrow down to the sweater category. If you want a 100% wool cardigan, can search the following:
cardigan (fuzzy, brushed, shaggy) (wool, shetland, 100%, pure) -blend -cotton
Or something similar. It's harder to use the ebay filters for material type since not everyone fills out that info. But you can always uncheck the things you don't want, while leaving "unspecified" still check. Which should keep the items where material wasn't specified while removing the items you definitely don't want.
If need more advice on buying shetlands or brushed sweaters on eBay, let me know. Have done lots of searching for those over time!
I appreciate your effort and advice. Thank you. As far as pants, I’ve gradually been buying J.Crew 770 straight on eBay and Zeometer once recommended a less tapered chino, which makes sense to me. I’ve been reluctant to buy something outright, mainly because I’ve considered alternatives to J. Crew but I think that’s the right place to start.
For example, I’ve been looking at Brooks Brothers Hudson Advantage Chino (on eBay) but haven’t been able to get to a store to try them on
I’m a J.Crew 770 guy as well. Works well with my body type. And it’s a great in the middle timeless fit I think.
Do you mind me asking what your body type is? And how would one go about figuring this out?
Well, I'm not sure what body type is "officially", but my lower half is pretty stout/thick, but not ginormous. I'm fairly short(5'9" / 175cm) and also fairly heavy (215 lbs / 97.5 kg). And I have decent size butt, quads, and calves, so a true slim fits and skinny fits don't work for me.
Also, since I'm not tall and have fairly short legs, I find that fits that are baggier than the 770/slim straight tend to make me look short, chubby, and pillowy. But anything much slimmer than the 770 I don't find very comfortable. Too constricting in the legs.
For jeans, I've typically been wearing the Levi's 513 slim straight fit. Pretty similar dimensions to the J.Crew 770. I've been upgrading my jeans though, and trying to buy fits that are similar to 513/770.
Thanks for that. It’s quite helpful. I’m about 5’9” too and I also have concerns that a wider pant wouldn’t be flattering. I’ll look into the Levi’s 513. I’m trying to figure out jeans. Ha. I bought a couple of Gap selvedge on a pretty good discount and they’re actually pretty baggy - I think I might have been ahead of the trend there and most recently bought a black pair from Madewell that I like. Relaxed straight, I think. I’ve been wearing 32x30s and I have some room in the waist but I don’t like pants too tight. I also tend to prefer them at my hip.
