Etsy - Topic of the day 8/10/24
Amongst the sea of online marketplaces, Etsy bills itself as a place to find "unique" items. What have been your experiences on Etsy? Are there any particular items worth buying or sellers worth following on Etsy? How does it compare to other sites (ebay, poshmark, etc.)?

There are some good vintage shops on Etsy but by and large it’s lots of drop shipping and shitty “custom” items ime
There are some fun curated vintage sellers on etsy that are not bad.
I got some very fun Australian Royal Navy Sailor trousers from this seller: https://www.etsy.com/de-en/shop/jumblelaya
Etsy search engine is utter trash though
I usually just pop in once in a while to look at what my favourite sellers have in stock
Used to be the spot for picking up fun handmade gifts. Now it’s kind of a sea of garbage. But surprisingly a good amount of vintage. I also have recently been trying to commission some reproductions of designer items. hoping that strategy pays off
SO bad, cant even reliably search by sizes
I’ve found a ton of nice leather goods on there over the years
Etsy really needs better search filters for how much dropshipped junk is on there. I'm sure Ebay has way more junk in total but I'm able to filter most of it out.
I pretty much only use it for special niche items or art that I like.
Personally i filter out everything new similar to ebay and that helps somewhat
wait how do you do that
I use this. In the desktop version it looks different
On the non vintage front i heard Black ficus is supposedly quite good.
etsy’s where i got some of my most bangin hats
i hear so much about how difficult it is to find vintage on etsy that i just aim for artist-apparel instead
and accessories
...i have several pin bags and keychains and flight tags from different etsy artists i'm just waiting to show off i'll be real
(left hats are king guro, right hats are coey and shy)

interesting linen garments, don't own those personally tho.
I desire that local cryptid cap immensely
They've really screwed up the search recently, 3-4 years ago it was pretty good
I still buy all my birthday cards from Etsy, but mostly because Ive some decent local creators saved
That one is rlly cute
echoing beans, there are some gems (rare vintage in particular) but by jove are you paying through the nose for it
i do love when someone double lists on etsy/ebay because it's easier to make an offer on ebay
Yeah, etsy has curated vintage store vibes
I wish I could find the good things on Etsy. I understand why it's hard (for Etsy) to curate
I've found some good random 3d printed things I've needed, or electronics tinkerers (modded things)
But I can't tell who's real for vintage, or what jewelry is real/good, etc
It's great for "it doesn't matter"
What really bugs me about etsy is that the "Europe" filter still includes the UK
