Long loading times on servers
Hi, I'm trying to use DH on a server but I noticed that it takes quite awhile to load chunks in. Also some chunks end up showing completely black. Is there any way of fixing any of that? Also I'm not sure how to share logs I'm sorry

/chunky
Chunky is known to cause LODs to turn into swiss cheese and bloat up world size, as can be seen in the attached screenshot.
We recommend you enable "Distant Generation" in Distant Horizons' settings and wait.
If you actually want to pre-generate vanilla chunks along with LOD data, disable Distant Horizons, wait for chunky to finish, then re-enable Distant Horizons.
Did you evenr had Starlight or ScalableLux installed?
Or was it a Paper server?
If so your vanilla chunks are "corrupted" and will stay black untill deleted (vanilla chunk not DH LOD) or updated
/slowgen
If it feels like LoD generation with
Distant Generator
is too slow:
Try increasing CPU Load
in Distant Horizons settings for faster generation, but you will experience more lag spikes and stuttering due to heavier workload on CPU.
To see if Distant Generator
is really working or not:
1) Check CPU usage while in-game, using Aggressive
settings of CPU Load
. If CPU usage's hovering around 80-100%, the LoDs are generating in the background.
2) Go to DH settings > Advanced Options > Debug > Wireframe
, set Enable Debug Wireframe Rendering
and Show World Gen Queue
to True
.
Enabling both settings will show you the visualization of world gen tasks queued and working on the map (blue boxes for queued tasks, red boxes for working tasks)Mods:
- Noisium
- Faster Random
- Lithum
Might help with speed
i do not have either of those mods installed and let me ask if it is a paper server
wait am i supposed to get rid of these or have them installed
I you don't have them now, but did you ever had them?
or the server
nope
okay so should i try disabling chunky first?
update: the server is running paper
and i'm pretty sure it isn't running any mods or plugins it's purely vanilla
how ddo i check the cpu usage in f3? i'm not sure which line to look at
I don't think you can, but you can see CPU usage in the Windows task manager
You can try downgrading DH to 2.1.0 to fix the black chunks, but IDK if it will help
note that you will need to regen all LODs
