What University stripe shirt should I get?
I would like get a University Stripe shirt. I got a Spier Mackay one, but the fabric was kinda thick - wasn't too versatile so I returned it.
Which brand would you be looking at? (ebay or new)
My size is 15.5-33, but in Spier I'm more like 16-33 - I don't know if they're tight at the collar.
There aren't many Ralph Lauren uni stripe dress shirts on ebay. Maybe I should look at M size ones as well?
I see some BB Regent ones...
In terms of fit, I think Spier contemporary fit would be around the baggiest I'd be looking for.
I can't decide exactly where I should look for, and wondering what y'all would recommend me to do. Thanks π

Vintage PRL in Letter Sizing should be pretty ubiquitous.
Really it depends on your budget too. Wythe makes some very nice oxfords, but theyβre pricier.
Okay so for your sizing being different at Spier, in that case is that your chest, waist etc? Why not go with your collar size in their classic fit?
But Oxford shirts are supposed to be relatively heavy cloth so that complaint will remain with other famous brands. And it's really common to wear them to some degree "baggy". I think all or nearly all Ralph Lauren and BB shirts will be a looser fit than Spier for a given size. My recent PRL slim fit shirt in Large is not skinnier than the measurements on Spier's site for 16.5 contemporary.
If you really are set on a relatively close fitting, lightweight button down, in university stripe, I suspect you'll have a hard time.
I'm also 15.5-16/33. In my experience, if you go with letter sizing the sleeves will be too long. I've acquired a bunch of PRL uni stripe oxfords on eBay by being patient.
Thank you! The neck size was too tight at 15.5 with Spier, even though that's my measured neck size with a measuring tape and putting a finger inside the tape to add extra padding.
Okay! Yes generally just measure your neck normally and add half an inch works, I think? It does for me
Neck sizes are inconsistent between brands. I'm 16 in PRL, 15.5 in BB and S&M, 16.5 in Todd Snyder
I guess it depends, yeah. But that's funny, I've found some BB Makers tight necked in the size I normally get both BB and PRL :frognyoron:
Thanks for sharing, so SM is actually on the lower end for you. Guess i just have a yuge neck or something π
Me too. Size L neck, size S arms, size M chest. :nooooo:
So I stick to dress shirts because they fit better, but it limits my options.
I have a really large neck (and top block in general, incl arms) relative to my chest size, I'd probably need to go custom to have actually slimmer shirts; occasionally I've been able to thrift vintage Arrow OCBDs and the like that are slimmer
Lol, is 16-33 really that weird of a size? I just think usually M shirts have 35 sleeves just so that it can fit a broad range of people.
current era ralph lauren no-iron uni stripes would be an option
Not that weird, but it does seem to be the shortest sleeve for that size of neck, so it's a little different from the average body shape.
I think you may be right that S/M/L sizes bias towards longer sleeves, because sleeves being a little long is better than a little short.
It annoys me, but it's definitely a first world problem.
it gives the effect but i wasn't a fan of the next to skin feel (again, no iron cotton) and it was alpha sizing. ymmv but if you do get it find it on sale, it's overpriced otherwise
