odd small flat patches on suede coat - any solutions or just ignore them and move on?
Can only really see them when the light hits them, and it's a nice feeling coat (that actually seems to fit me which is a rarity) so I'll keep it anyway, but just wondering if this defect is fixable or if its just something to live with?
As a secondary thing, any recommendations for things i should do to keep the coat in good condition? I know leather treatments but not suede (which I believe is totally different to care for)

Not sure this is suede, might be nubuck
Could be that moths messed with it
Could be, it's a second hand coat (but other than those marks looks like it's never been worn). I wondered if it was a second, and so had those flaws from the factory as it were
I thought it was just brown leather at first, couldn't see the suede like velvety effect until I saw it in different light
Possible I guess but the rest of the coat looks brand new (never actually seen moth damage before in all my life lol)
Are there any ways of restoring it? On suede I saw it might be possible with a wire brush but this seems more delicate than suede
So this is either some kind of pebbled leather or nubuck.
The patches look like glue
I have a nubuck bomber that had military patches on it
Those were partially fixed with glue
I did not mess with them bc they are not that noticeable
Impossible to tell from the pictures which it is tbh
It doesn't feel like glue (unless you're talking about it being patches of leather glued into place to fill in holes or something?) They feel like the rest of the coat, they just look different (and don't have the velvety texture).
I can try and take better pictures I just didn't know what would be helpful
Don't know if these are any better (I used a much better camera) you can see the mark I drew with a finger showing the suedey pile effect it has. It's a very soft leather. The patchey parts feel like the same leather, but without the fuzz (and darker).
They're only about 1 or 2 cm in diameter. Could well just be defects (which would explain the price) but I was just asking on the off-chance I could improve them somehow. If not I'll still wear it, it's still a lovely coat.
Okay, that looks a lot different - not moth related
Haha well narrowing it down at least
If you think its suede i would try suede cleaner. Its usually for shoes, but leather is leather
Can you tell if it is some sort of extra material on the jacket vs a patch that is worn away? Since it is suede you may be able to buff it out with something slightly abrasive, but hard to tell from pictures.
Now that I've looked more into it I'm more thinking it might be nubuck. Not sure how different that makes the cleaning process. I know they both have brushes but I wouldn't want to damage this. Unless the pictures have shown its definitely suede?
It feels like it just... is part of the original material, but without the same surface finish
But whether that could be caused by something being spilled on it or something I don't know, it doesn't feel sticky or rough or anything it feels like leather. Just a little discoloured and shiny instead of velvety
That still may be something you can fix with a very light abrasive - perhaps a low grit sandpaper, used by hand carefully on an inconspicuous spot to see what happens. If the texture of the jacket is more shiny like the first pictures it might still stand out vs the second pictures which appear rougher and would have less visual difference.
The texture is like smooth leather with a very light peach fuzz (if that makes sense) not what I would usually describe suede which to me is more rough feeling and completely matte
Though im sure there's a lot of different suedes
Either way I think you can’t go wrong - I find certain combinations of material and clothing item look better when beat up and aged a bit, leather/suede jackets have been a daily staple so I find patina will make them look lived-in rather than dirty. Would love to see some full pics and how you style it over in #waywt !
I'll do a proper one at some point, this was just what I did to make sure it fit etc. Seemed to
I have some new boots coming next week so I'll try a waywt photo when I have them aha
Awesome, looking forward to it!
It was just one of those moment of "this is my new favourite coat by a long way... oh wait I found this small flaw" haha. But I mean it was also dirt cheap so I really shouldn't complain
