Strange Shadowy Chunks: Solved By Reverting DH Version to 2.1.0a
No logs or specific error messages, singleplayer
The Mod runs as intended with the exception of some patches that wont load even with chunky pre-gen, well other than of course the obvious giant shadowed out chunks. Ive generated multiple worlds and messed with multiple settings yet I cant' seem to get the issue to dissapear.

Testing removing starlight after exploring some other posts- will see if that fixes it
this did not fix the issue
did you regenerate the LODs after removing starlight?
is there a specific way to regenerate LOD's?
i didnt see much while poking around in the settings
you can by deleting the sqlite files at
/lodstored
Single Player:
- Overworld:
.minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- Nether: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM-1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- End: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- Custom Dimensions: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIMENSION_FOLDER/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
Multiplayer:
- .minecraft/Distant_Horizons_server_data/SERVER_NAME/
ah here we go again
logs are generated on game launch, they can cut off with no error, but no matter what they should be there
generating new LOD's did not fix the issue
Try without starlight
and do not run chunky
and delete current lods again :/
i already deleted starlight
before generating new LOD's
can you try in a new world with only DH?
yes its just generating the world rightt now
the issue doesnt seem to persist
when its the only mod...
probably an incompatability then
you could try a /binary search
Try a binary search and figure out which mod is causing it.
So disable half of the mods, see if issue is still there, if yes disable half again etc etc until you find the mod that's causing the issue.
yo thats genius!
More like common sense if you have more than double digit IQ.
seems like common sense to someone who has seen it before
i dont think i could come up with applying this idea on mods
check sodium, starlight, lithium, indium, continuity and iris and specifically if they had any very recent updates
sometimes mods update and theyre buggy and they get fixed quick
it might not even be them...
in my case starlight was the issue
will try downgrading it next
also what's even the point of this comment? it's rude and irrelevant, come on dude
binary search it terrible for MC, because of library mods
you can' even perform a true binary search
jump search is a better term
hm, seems there's only one version of starlight available for my MC version, and that still causes the issue even when reinstalled
Starlight on never MC version does not give that much improvement
You can just remove it
i'm on 1.20.1, no clue if that's newer
mojang reworked the lighting engine on 1.20
so youre good
by removing it
👍
okay now it suddently went back to loading black chunks..
and now those chunks are slowly updating to be fine in real time.. and this is after removing the sqlite file several times, it's like they just got stuck in memory or something
however dark chunks still generate, but only most of them are dark
yeah no this is actually an issue with the latest release, rolled back to previous (and deleted the sqlite file) and now it's absolutely fine again and also seems to generate LODs much faster too
in fact this actually somehow feels better than it did before updating and rolling back? weird
hm
latest release of distant horizons?
yes
Yeah
Just bumping back a version
Fixed the issue
I think you can mark this as the solution?
yeah
Out of curiosity, changing what version to what version?
2.1.0a
Might want to report this in https://discord.com/channels/881614130614767666/1030106128782196797 bc it looks like someone else had the same issue with the same solution
Ig unless both were caused by the same mod incompatibility
