You start by choosing a Minecraft launcher. You can use the default launcher, but a custom launcher like prism or the modrinth app would be easier

Here is a guide using Modrinth
tysm
ill try it right now
do i have to use the launcher to use the mod or can it be used in normal launcher
it can be used with vanilla launcher or any other launcher
but then you need to install the mod loader from the net
if i download it on modrinth can i use it on vanilla
or do i have to do something else to use it on vanilla
just put it in the mods folder
but different launchers have different folders
There is no way to use mods without installing a modloader
So Fabric, Forge or NeoForge
I recommend Fabric
what’s that?
i want to install it on the mc launcher
i have the app curse forge if that helps
A modloader is something you install onto your launcher of choice
The name says it, it loads the mods
Vanilla minecraft has no way of loading other stuff into the game except for resource packs and datapacks
But you can also just install DH on curseforge, only then you'd have to use that to start up minecraft every time you want to use DH
Id recommend getting prismlauncher, with that you can just completely replace both curseforge and the vanilla launcher
And it makes installing and updating modloaders, mods, shaderpacks, resource packs a lot easier and its also very lightweight
As in it literally has no performance impact on anything
modrinth or prismlauncher?
Id recommend prismlauncher
okay i will download it rn
With the modrinth launcher you'd be limited to only modrinth content
once i have prismlauncmhe what do i do next?
Top right there is an "accounts" button or whatever its called when you're not logged in yet
Mine has my mc name since I am logged in
Click that, click manage accounts
Click "add microsoft"
Then press "open page and copy code"
Paste the code here and login with ur microsoft account thats linked to your mc account
Then when thats done, you can click away all the account stuff, press add instance on top left
how do i get darrk mode
Settings > user interface > widgets > set that to dark
just added my account
Noice, now we're here
i got this pop up
Yup, choose the version you want, and choose a modloader (Id recommend fabric), give it a nice name (or dont) and click OK
1.21 and 0.15.11?
Now you've made your first instance! To install DH you should right click the instance and click edit
Yup
im assuming i click 'Mods" after?
Yup
Then top right "download mods"
should i do modrinth or curse forge?
And there you search distant horizons, click select mod for download and then review and confirm
Doesnt matter, I usually go for modrinth
does one have more options than the other?
They both have different options
if i download another mod in the future i can just swap if i wanted to right?
Most mod devs upload their mods to both but some upload it to only Curseforge or Modrinth
Yup
And usually you can use them at the same time
just downloaded it
Now you should be able to launch it
Or no wait, forgor final step
i was just about to press launch ☠️
Did you point prism to a java version?
?
When you install it, at some point it asks you to point it to whatever version of java you have installed
i dont remember seeing that
Ah
Then it might just have picked up something you already installed
You can try to launch it to check
how do i add prism launcher to my home page?
Home page as in desktop?
yeah
Open the start menu, search prism launcher, right click prism and click "open file location"
Send a screenshot of what it opens
Nice, copy that prism launcher file (crtl+c) and paste it onto your desktop (crtl+v)
You can also just use right click and copy paste that way if you prefer that
i just dragged it and dragged it back into the files
Dragged it where and back to which files?
i dragged it to my desktop and dragged it back to where it originally was
Ah that probably works too
Depends on if its on your desktop now lol
once im in game do i need to do anything?
it is haha
Enter a world and see if its working
my game iis really laggy
DH on its own probably wont perform well tho
Yeah was just about to say lol
Id recommend also installing sodium and indium, they do nothing other than making your game run faster
is it the same process?
Yup, you do have to close minecraft while installing mods tho
Yup
And indium
Yup part two
The yups return
is that all i need
Yup part three, the yup awakens
Okay I'll stop now
Oh oop
Forgor the fabric API
Install the fabric API too, its not included in the modloader for some reason
this one?
Yes
it looks cool when it shows all the code when launching lol
its just a little laggy
is that all i do?
While DH is generating LODs (the chunks that make you look further), the game can be a bit laggy
You can lower the CPU load in the config to make it perform better
Or increase the CPU load to make LODs generate faster
is there any dh settings i need to chhange
Mostly just playing with the CPU load
And Id decrease your normal render distance
That will probs increase your performance a lot
i did it all the way low and increase quality
Keep in mind that with very high quality LODs and a very low CPU load setting, generating LODs is gonna be very slow
oh okay
uh oh my game crashed
☠️
Oop
can i close the launcher once im in mc
Yup
It might be running out of ram
How much do you have total?
32
Sweet
Close mc, right click the instance, click edit and go to settings on the bottom left
Check the memory box, and on the right, increase max memory allocation to 8 gigs (or 8192 MiB)
Yup, thats good, now you can launch again
can i go higher than 8 gigs?
Depending on your java installation, more RAM wont be better
oh okay
In your case, it will just give you bigger lag spikes
how do i know if dh is working or not?
Lower your render distance to 2 and see if it looks further than 2 chunks
lol
what should i set my render distance as?
Personally I use 8
do you see the same as would see in 32?
Well I use shaders so the difference between LODs and real chunks is barely noticable
does any shader work with dh?
or is it only some
Gist

Some
And you have to use Iris, optifine shaders dont work
ohh okay
well, i appreciate the help
ill be using prism launcher fom now on it was pretty easy
can i also close this?
Yup
You can also change smth in the settings so it closes automatically when you open mc
tyy!
Np, have fun playing!
hey! i downloaded a pack but its not showing up for some reason
not sure what to do
Solution: It do that sometimes
If you close and re-open that window it should show up
Or else it shows up ingame
i closed the window but nothing
Also you dont need to close mc to install shader packs, only when installing mods
ohh okay ill keep that in mind
i laucnhed it but i dont see anything
Oh weird
Then try downloading it again
didnt pop up
do i have to delete it first or soemthing?
Not sure
I need to do smth rq, but I'll be back in a bit
take your time dw
@MarijnIsN00B (UTC+1) hey, how do i transfer my world into prism launcher?
/lodstored
Single Player:
- Overworld:
.minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- Nether: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM-1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- End: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- Custom Dimensions: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIMENSION_FOLDER/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
Multiplayer:
- .minecraft/Distant_Horizons_server_data/SERVER_NAME/
Instead of data, copy either:
- saves folder
- WORLD_NAME folder
i play essential with my friends and im wondering how to copy it over
it's really confusing
you cant, with essentials
it will only work for the host
my friend is the host and they want to transfer the world to prism launcher
Copy the world folder from the current launcher saves folder to prism instance saves folder
does it save the nether and end too
Yes everything related to a world is in this world’s folder
Nether, End, and host’s LODs included
