Can you tell what fabric these work shirts are made of?
Love these mid-century two-pocket shirts on Neal Cassady and this other guy here. They look soft though—so like chambray, or chamois or linen or just very worn denim? I really can’t tell.
When I find shirts like this now they are stiff material and boxy fit like Dickies or Carhartt. Trying to find something more like in these pics.

It’s probably chambray for most of these. Wythe does one that looks a lot like the first one.
i have a vintage button down like #1 with separated pen pocket and flap pocket; it's a lightweight cotton similar in weight to chambray
In case anyone else is looking, I found these; however, no tall sizes so I’m still on the hunt.

I'd guess chambray in the 5-6oz range. Things that might help your search: work shirt, CPO shirt (traditionally wool), utility shirt, overshirt, and shirt jacket. Buzz Rickson, Wearhouse, Bronson, etc do vintage repros. eg https://www.selfedge.com/buzz-rickson?product_id=341
BR USN Indigo Chambray Shirt
Buzz Rickson brings us a US Navy repro work shirt made of indigo chambray as part of their fall collection. A great fit just like what we'd normally expect out of the Buzz Rickson line along with amazing construction.

Out of curiosity is that Alexander Julian shirt really oversized? I found a denim one, same size M, thrifting yesterday, but it was absolutely gigantic. Hands down the largest medium shirt I’ve ever seen lol
Thank you!
mine is true to size though it does go off numeric measurement (15.5/32-33)
Oh I see that now. Looks like I saw one of these from a 90s oversized line
