Levi's Vintage Clothing brand/Selvedge Denim Jeans

I am in the market for some selvedge jeans, and I wanted to get some recommendations on what brands to go for. I'm mainly looking for a more elegant brand and I'm not trying to go for a diesel look. I like the Levi's 1944 pair, but I am unsure of how well LVC holds up/how high the quality is.

Do you have a budget in mind? I really like my orSlow 105s but there are lots of options out there for that 501-type look

Can you explain what you mean by elegant vs diesel? The point of buying selvedge for most is the custom fades, which I wouldn't describe as elegant -- that's kind of the point

LVC is great in my experience. If they're looking at a 1944 cut the 105 may not be what's they want. The 105 and 107 are more 60s/70s interpretations of the 501 I think. I think Warehouse makes a 1944 cut.

The 105 is based on a 50s-ish cut to my knowledge, but it's not really specified anywhere. If they're after a 1944 cut specifically, sugar cane also makes one for what it's worth

LVC is fine, if a bit expensive for what you’re getting. I recommend Lee 101 (the Archive Collection if you’re looking to spend), Sugar Cane, Fullcount. For more “modern” jeans in raw as well was washed I recommend Nudie Jeans.

In the ballpark of $150, I'd recommend Sugar Cane 1947, TCB s40, Warehouse 1001xx, oe Resolute 714. All are either WW2 or late 40s repros and generally more period accurate in details and denim than LVC at much lower price

They should restock sometime soon since Hinoya just got one. Hinoya is closer to $200 for non wash 1001xx I guess but Still much cheaper than LVC To be fair and a bit more precise, the $150 range that I gave is more like a liberal +/- $35 spread from Sugar Cane at 115 to Warehouse at closer to 180.

I'm not really into iron heart selvedge which is more of a streetwear selvedge imo. I'd just like a brand that sells a good pair of jeans without weird leather labels iykwim No more than 300 How does Levi's quality of fabric compare to those companies?

Never handled many LVC but the consensus is that the Japanese repro brands have equally nice or nicer denim with more accurate details at roughly half the price as LVC For the price of LVC, you’re nearing the ultra premium tier of Japanese repros, including handmade one and two man band style companies (Ooe Yofukuten, Connors Sewing Factory) and Freewheelers Some of the old Made in Japan or Valencia Street lines of LVC from the 90s and early 2000s would be an exception. Most of the present day ones are made in Bulgaria or Turkey and will have denim with a more regular weave and less vintage style irregularities

At the end of the day though, you should just get whatever gives you the fit that you most want and brings you the most joy. If that's the LVC, then they are still plenty nice and don't let me discourage you
