GPU not being utilised at all
Just finished installing all of the required mods for Distant Horizons to work (no extra mods, the only other thing I downloaded is a compatible shader pack) and I made a singleplayer world (v1.20.4) to test it, I join the world and I run at 2-5fps, my CPU is at 100% utilisation while my GPU is sitting at 0% utilisation. I've never had this problem before or even seen anything like it and I haven't changed any of the launcher settings except for allocating my launcher 8GB of ram. Does anyone have any solutions for this? The mods I have downloaded are: Distant Horizons, Indium, Fabric API, Iris, and Sodium. The shader I have is: Bliss Shader.

Generation is done on the CPU, so your CPU will be used a lot when generating LODs
You cant force a program to use your GPU or CPU more, it will just use however much it needs
In this case its generating LODs and doesnt need your GPU so its not being used

When using fabric, it told me to download another mod for dh to work

You can either lower the CPU load in the DH settings or disable shaders and let DH generate LODs in the background while you do smth else

Probably because your CPU is too busy with generating LODs and not letting the GPU work hard
And the numbers in the F3 screen arent always 100% representative of how much its actually being used

To edit the config, press the button next to the FOV slider to edit the config.

There are "programs" that have or could implement such functionality, e.g. water simulation can be done on both, compression, sorting

no, i suggested maybe you were using that to get 3000+ fps. there is no way you were getting that playing on normal settings

If it feels like LoD generation with
Distant Generator
is too slow:
Try increasing CPU Load
in Distant Horizons settings for faster generation, but you will experience more lag spikes and stuttering due to heavier workload on CPU.
To see if Distant Generator
is really working or not:
1) Check CPU usage while in-game, using Aggressive
settings of CPU Load
. If CPU usage's hovering around 80-100%, the LoDs are generating in the background.
2) Go to DH settings > Advanced Options > Debug > Wireframe
, set Enable Debug Wireframe Rendering
and Show World Gen Queue
to True
.
Enabling both settings will show you the visualization of world gen tasks queued and working on the map (blue boxes for queued tasks, red boxes for working tasks)If you want a really big render distance, max out dh render distance, max out CPU Load and wait a long time
