Height/Vertical Fog
What fog settings should I set to get this look (pictured below)? I am specifically after the look of the height based fog around the bases of the mountains. I have messed with the settings labeled as such, but alas, to no visible effect.
Extra non-tag info: i9-13900, 4090 laptop gpu. Default settings. Iris + DH ONLY.

change the fog mode to cubic instead of cubic squared or even to linear
I've got similar to this fog
was tuning it for a long time
if you also want fog on vanilla terrain
use mod: Simple Fog Control
thanks! i’ve been trying to figure it out for a while lol. I’ll try what you suggested when i get home
Do you find something that worked?
I did

You can see zoomed in examples
So if I understand correctly you set the Nvidium keep distance to be less than 32 in the config file?
I am playing at 32 render distance
If you play at vanilla RD of 32, set the NVIDIUM keep RD to 33 - 38
If you would play with vanilla RD of 16, set the NVIDIUM keep RD to 17 - 22
If you would play with vanilla RD of 12, set the NVIDIUM keep RD to 13 - 18
Using DH I would recommand to decrease vanilla RD to at least 16 if not 12, and increase DH RD instead
I am playing at 32 RD because otherwise Better Clouds bug out for whatever reason
Then use this fog, and increased Noise texture (see for photos: https://discord.com/channels/881614130614767666/1238244368260010047)
Like what? They render over LODs?
First image is at 12 render distance, and the second is at 32
Cloud RD is connected to your RD, to the mod works correctly
There is a clear visual difference between the two images
There was a mod that extented the cloads to render beyond your RD
Sodium Extra has that feature
And it does not work?
I will test it now
It has no effect
there was another mod, for that, but I don't know if it works with Better Clouds
And it causes clouds to always render on top of lods
.
Better Clouds should add DH support
Or even such feature in general
.
I would also assume that NVIDIUM keep RD setting does not affect Better Clouds clouds
This is 12 RD with keep distance to 33. Maybe editing the config will produce a bit better results
where are the clouds?
I turned them off, I cannot seem to get them to extend at lower render distances
You can try to use mod FabricSkyboxes and FabricSkyBoxes Interop, and try to find some sky resourcepack with some cool clouds in vanilla style (or not)
Well I suppose I am just going to avoid using Simple Fog Control as I cannot seem to find a good balance, the fog settings they have already seem to work good enough.
Still wish we could know what settings were used for this photo...
For my eye it is fog linear with fog_max at 0.8/0.9
and no noise texture (I don't recommend)
What do you mean by fog_max at 0.8/0.9?
Ahhh
