OpenBrush is not finishing loading (and therefore does not open)
Hi, OpenBrush is not opening, and with that, I mean it keeps stuck at the 'loading page'. Is there a maximum of MB which it can handle or specific files which gives an error?
I have attached the screenshots of the folders and files
Thank you! ♥️

It doesn't normally open the media library panel by default - so shouldn't load any of those.
To test this, try renaming the Media Library folder to something else temporarily. Then Open Brush will launch and create the default Media Library with just the basic demo files in.
If that opens ok - take a note of whether the Media Library panel is open without you needing to launch it.
been having the same problem as OP, i open it, it stays as a black screen, i open up the oculus menu, it closes it automatically when i open the menu, and when i reopen it, it's stuck as the loading screen forever. IDK what might be happening in terms of what media it's trying to open if it is, since it's a fresh install
Can you try the test I suggested above?
how do i navigate to the media library folder?
Quest?
i think meta quest 2?
got open brush off the store
i have a files app but it seems to be completely empty
Do you use SideQuest already? That's got a good file browser.
no idea what that is
do you know how to connect your quest to a pc?
other than the virtual desktop app, no idea
i meant - just connecting a usb cable so you can copy files etc. - like you would do with a phone
oh, i tried that a few minutes ago and it only functioned as a power cable, my computer didn't pick up any new device off it
i presume you've done obvious stuff like rebooting the quest?
yeah
uninstalling/reinstalling open brush
:slugheadnod:
try switching to the beta: https://docs.openbrush.app/alternate-and-experimental-builds/open-brush-beta-docs#lnka1z4mzei7-2
sometimes that can make fix issues like this
:saintunyoy: will give it a try
thank you for your efforts!
I did do nothing, and when I last weekend opended my headset after weeks, it worked again :). Might be that it was resolved with the update? Or that it was so big that it needed more time to load or something
Quite possibly. It's hard to say for sure.
It just also kept hanging, but then I restarted it and it worked again...
Was there a reliable solution to this? I'm encountering OB 2.8.0 stuck on "Loading" splash screen on my Oculus Rift (Windows 10 PC setup). It loads on the PC, but not showing up in Rift headset. It was working about a month ago.
I've tried the following:
Clearing and setting up the Guardian.
Reinstalling "Open Brush" in "Meta Quest Link".
Restarting P.C.
Removing the Media Library.
Any thoughts?
I'm not sure people are even reporting the same issue here.
3 reports:
1. went away of it's own accord
2. the person never got back to us (so maybe switching to the beta worked?)
3. you!
so it might be 3 completely separate issues.
have you tried the beta?
I'm having trouble figuring out how to get the beta version...how?
yes, I saw this. But I'm not understanding how to choose "beta" in the store or use beta from within Meta Link
do it via the web: https://www.meta.com/en-us/experiences/pcvr/open-brush/5227489953989768/
wow...that's a pretty subtle option. trying now...
okay, says versrion 2.8.3 in Meta Quest Link now. But still splash screen and "Loading...". Tried restarting computer too...I was getting ready to downgrade NVIDIA driver before sending my message
let me try the rift version quickly
any reason not to just use the steam version?
does that have the same issue?
I don't have a Steam setup...I swear this worked a month ago, I remember recording camera paths. Other options? Is there a stand alone for PC, outside of Quest Link, which connects to headset? Or should I try Quest 2 with my Quest Link?
Why is it hard to set up Steam?
5 minute task
you've spent 10x longer than that chatting here!
Plus - you then also get to try Open Blocks! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3077230/Open_Blocks/
Steam
Open Blocks
Open Blocks lets you easily create 3D objects in virtual reality, no matter your modelling experience. Using six simple tools, you can bring your applications to life, create a volumetric masterpiece, or simply let your imagination run wild.
But generally speaking, we get fewer reports of issues with the Steam version. And it gets tested a lot more because it has more users. So it's always the preferred option unless there's a solid reason you can't use it (some university IT departments don't allow it to be installed etc)
And you can even run it without steam if you really must - install OpenComposite.
I think this is the link: https://gitlab.com/znixian/OpenOVR
GitLab
Campbell Suter (ZNix) / OpenComposite · GitLab
Reimplementation of OpenVR, translating calls to OpenXR.
of course, if you recommend the Steam route, I'll do that
(PS - Just tried the Rift version and it's working fine for me)
I'll try the Steam route and get back later...
I just tried Steam, but it's stuck on the "play area background" screen, i.e. steam vr background. The OB window starts up on my PC fine. Also I did the steps to install the Beta version
On Meta Link, Big Screen starts fine using Oculus Rift S , so another app is showing in headset.
Okay...so this was the issue 🙄 , I had deliberately set this in my "Open Brush.cfg".
"EnableMonoscopicMode": true,
It was not registering in my mind because it looked stuck on "Loading..." in the headset.
Oh! That makes sense. I always set "DisableXrMode" to true if I ever set that to true. Maybe I need to think about making sure those two settings are always compatible in a sensible way.
In any case - I will remember next time to ask "have you tried removing any custom settings?" before asking anything else!
